So we can not sub items over $150? Also, how is this rate determined? For instance would Wayne Gretzky IP autos cards be over $150? What about autographed rookie cards were the value of the card unsigned is right around the $100-$150 range. Like for instance i have autographed rookie cards of Mark Messier, Ray Bourque, Brett Hull, Paul Coffey, Patrick Roy. Would they consider these to be over $150?

I think its whatever you declare the value, so i think if you said your ruth auto is worth $150 it would count

So when in May would you need the items and $? Any word back about the $10 barrier? I'll commit to at least 10 right now, but possibly more once the final details are fleshed out. I've got thousands of cards I'd want to send in, it's just a question of timing and $.

Just called and talked to the guy I got the prices from. He said its something they will determine with the item in hand. Which, basically, sucks. So, if they deem the authentic value more than $150, they will charge the full letter price for that item.

considering we have less than 70 items right now, I don't we will get close to the $10.

I have just PMed itsinthegrade about his offer, and will see what we can work out when I get details from him.

Here is the pricing that we will have by going through itsinthegrade.
I will still be running it and recieving the items. I will be shipping everything him and he will hand-deliver to JSA. I will post additional details this weekend. Also, this will likely move the submission to late May/early June as the cards going to him resolves the issue I had that cause us to wait until July.

$12 for items less than 3.5x5.25 to be authenticated and slabbed.
$17 for items less than 3.5x5.25 to be authenticated, graded and slabbed.
$23 for any item bigger than 3.5x5.25 and smaller than 8.5x11x0.25 for authentication and slabbing.
$26 for any item bigger than 3.5x5.25 and smaller than 8.5x11x0.25 for authentication and slabbing.

$500 max value per item

If your considering submitting, please read this closely
Just a pricing correction and a possible major update;
the Oversized item fees actually come in to play for items bigger than 3x5. This is slightly smaller than I had said initially.

Secondly, for logistical purposes, I may decide to limit this sub to standard slabs only (items 3x5 or smaller). Here is my reasoning based on 50 standard sized items going out, at average value of $100 each.
- I will have to ship all the stuff out to ITSINTHEGRADE. I can likely ship 50 cards for $30 via registered mail.
- Irregardless of the size of the items, recieving the items back from BGS to ITSINTHEGRADE will be $16 for FedEx ground plus $7 for every $1000 insurance ($35+$16 based on $5000insurance).
- However, we will then have to deal with the extra fees to have ITSINTHEGRADE ship the items to me (where size will affect price). Guestimation from fedex.com for a 20lbs package thats 16x8x10 with insurance is another $50 total.
- Adding 8x10s, Sports Illustrateds, etc, will only add to the size of all 3 packages. So automatically, we are looking at approximately $2.50-$3 extra per item just to get the stuff back to me. Now, I will be pro-rating the insurance costs based on declared values, so someone sending 5x $400 items would pay $14 in insurance (just for the trip from BGS to ITSINTHEGRADE, additional costs for the other trips), while someone sending 5x $20 cards will pay $0.70 in insurance for that trip.
- Your then going to have to pay me to return the stuff to you; with DC and insurance.

Logistically, I think it may be best for everyone to limit everything to small slabs. Here are approximate costs (assuming the $130 total shipping costs described above);
First note: I will be charging EVERYONE 25% right off the bat for coverage of the 3 shipping trips (not including back to you).
- 5 cards *$60 declared value each; $12x5 = $60 for auth/slabbing + $15 initial shipping bill. $300 Declared Value (DV) = Your actual shipping cost will be around $8. Excess would be applied to return cards to you, if additional $ remains, I will refund it.
- 5 cards *$200 DV each; $17 (with grade) x5 = $85 for auth/slabbing/grade + $21.25 initial shipping bill. $1000 Declared Value (DV) = Your actual shipping cost will be around $26. I will have to bill you for additional costs before cards sent to ITSINTHEGRADE and again for your stuff to be returned.

If you wanted to declare $1 value for each item to save money, you can, but you risk getting no restitution with USPS or FEDEX or BGS if there is a shipping problem.

Now remember, all that is assuming only standard sized slabs with 50 items totaling $5000 insurance. Full Size slabs with increase shipping costs/logistics (and my accounting requirements).

If you have any comments/questions/issues/suggestions, please post here.

And this is the only drawback to group subs. You end up paying extra s&h fees to cover the travel to multiple destinations.

I'm still in...

I haven't been reading the boards much as of late as I'm on vacation, so sorry if I missed this answer; why are the cards being shipped to you, and then to itsinthegrade? Why not just one destination before going to JSA?

He is able to save us up to $4-9 per card by going through him. The majority wanted to go that route.

I obviously have no problem with that, but I haven't seen any indication from him that he wants to organize the whole thing. Personally, it makes no difference to me whether we go through him or just use the fees they told me. I am sending only about 6-7 cards, most without grade, so the cost savings through him is minimal for me.
