New month, new thread.

A couple of Eric Chavez "1/1" cards out of 2007 Moments & Milestones. They have the Topps 1/1 hologram on the back, I get nostalgic for that. The Eck completes the 2015 Gypsy Queen mini team set. I still need one card to complete all of the GQ minis up through 2019, the 2016 Eckersley. Some of the SPs can be kind of tough. Hudson finishes the 2003 Pristine Refractor team set, 05/99. Still need quite a few cards for the 2002 and 2004 Pristine Refractor team sets.

The PWE gods were kind today.

This $20 Cardinals lot arrived well packed in a bubble mailer with cardboard inserts and painters tape on all four top loads then all four put in a team bag with painters tape sealing the team bag shut. Top notch shipping for what's basically a nothing package but appreciated because it's how I ship.

This arrived PWE in a soft sleeve and top load with no tape or team bag. He did at least write "Non-machinable Photo Do not bend" on the envelope. Luckily it wasn't damaged.
2004 SP Authenic Ken Griffey Jr.jpg

All is well that ends well I guess.

Big month, overpaid on a few, got a good price on others.

1997 Flair Showcase Legacy Collection Row 1 #121 /100

1998 Bowman's Best Atomic Refractors #55 #/100

2010 Topps Heritage Derek Jeter Color Variation SSP
Already have one. This one is for the trade/sell box.
s-l500.jpg

2001 Topps Archives Autographs Don Mattingly
An early signature on an iconic card. Can't get any nicer.

2015 Epoch Rafa Nadal Auto #/10
Was sitting on eBay for years. Not the pack inserted auto, but after doing digging, this appears to be the retail case incentive for dealers. Either way, I love the picture and color on this. The pack inserted one would cost 10x more, so this will do nicely.

Yeesh that is ridiculous. Glad it wasn't damaged, that is a beautiful signature.

The three 1997 SPx McGwires were a lot, I didn't need the Bronze so I guess that goes in my "send it to COMC some day" box. The Gold finishes the "team set", which is just Canseco and McGwire. Still need Canseco for the Silver set. The scratches are on the toploaders, the cards themselves are real nice.

Pretty sure I bought a Canseco Silver in a fire sale a couple days ago. Let me check real quick.

Nope. Someone else snagged it out from under me for $2.

The 1991 Topps Desert Shield Eckersley puts me one away from completing the team set - the Canseco All-Star card. It's taking me a while on that one because I'm worried about fakes and want to get a low-end graded one, a 7 or maybe even a 6. 2020 Topps Black Sean Manaea 49/69, chipping away at the more recent Topps Black A's cards as I see them for decent prices. And the 1976 Rube Waddell and 1977 Jimmie Foxx finish off my A's Shakey's Pizza needs.

Couple of colorful minor league cards. When did Beckett stop putting subgrades on the flip? Wasn’t that the main selling point of BGS?

This is the big one today. I don't normally collect non-card stuff but I couldn't pass up a clean sig from Mantle at a good price. The program itself is a bit rough around the edges but so was Mick so it kind of fits. It is signed and numbered by Greer Johnson. It also has the Greer Johnson CoA as well as a JSA Cert with it.

Now on to your regularly scheduled 90s set build and PC goodness. These are some of my favorites that arrived today.

That Ozzie looks great in the Red version.

This McGwire checklist card completes the 1997 Donruss Gold Press Proof team set. The checklist cards, especially from Series 2 like this one, are super tough to find. Not sure if they were short printed or if it's just because they don't say "Press Proof" anywhere on them so they're easy to miss. I still need one card for the Silver Press Proof set and yep, it's the same McGwire checklist. The McGwire 1995 Stadium Club Members Only Ring Leader is a nice looking card.

These four pickups push me above 95% complete for my 1988 Topps autographed set, which was one of my 2021 collecting goals.

looks like i need to check my Dilfer cards --time to unload a few inserts .

If you have something really tough that one of the two or three long-time Dilfer collectors doesn't have it can go for a bit of money, but other than that his stuff doesn't sell particularly well. It's the kind of market where a card can sell for $5 or $75 just depending on whether one collector has one already.

1997 Ultra Hitting Machines McGwire, pretty sweet design. 1998 Donruss Preferred Great X-Pectations Die Cut where they DARED to put Ben Grieve on the back! The first 300 of the 3,000 card print run were die cut and they are more difficult to find than I would have thought - still need the Tejada/A-Rod card from this set. Mulder is from this year's Tier One, I always like the autographs out of this set for some reason. Tyson Ross finishes my 2010 Topps Chrome Blue Refractor/199 team set and the Eck 2016 SP mini was the last Gypsy Queen mini card I needed from all years, I'm caught up until they release 2021 GQ. Oh and I didn't have that Luzardo Bowman Chrome RC auto yet.

Oh yeah the player they put on the front of the Great X-Pectations card was a little better than Grieve:

Big time '90s card today, from the first Printing Plate set:

060921-1.jpg060921-2.jpg
1997 New Pinnacle Yellow Printing Plate Tom Goodwin. I have a Trent Dilfer plate from the football set but this is the first baseball one I've ever owned. I have big collections of Goodwin and Bobby Jones (Mets pitcher) since they went to Fresno State around the time I lived near there - same reason I collect Dilfer.

Plus a few other cards in the mail today:
060921-3.jpg
2004 Topps Chrome Black Refractor Ramon Hernandez puts me 2 away from the team set. 2005 Leaf Certified Mirror White Bobby Crosby puts me one away. And no idea where I am on 2021 Heritage Chrome Refractors but the Chapman is a nice pickup.

The Reggie 2002 Pristine Gold Refractor 48/70 puts me one away from completing that team set. Piazza's 2007 Heritage Chrome Refractor leaves me one away from the entire run of A's Heritage Refractors through 2019. The Matt Olson RC finishes off 2017 Topps Rainbow and leaves me one away from the full A's run of Topps Rainbow 2015-2019 (just missing the 2015 Max Muncy RC). And I'm nowhere near finishing 1999 Topps MVP Promotion, but it's always nice to pick one up. The AJ Hinch card is an uncorrected reverse negative that makes him appear to be an exceedingly rare lefty catcher. They did flip the image back for the Opening Day and Chrome sets at least.
