Lol the rage that permeates from a Jeter overrated thread is high comedy.

This is the stuff that our grandpas talked about in barbershops and I highly doubt they left in tears over the subject. If you aren't intelligent enough to read and comprehend the entire message then save your "**** derps" for the junior varsity boards.

Yeah. Jeter wasn't a great fielder, isn't the greatest Yankee or shortstop that ever was and his 5 World Series rings don't mean didly squat. We get it already. Now go to the basketball boards and explain to us how Tim Duncan isn't all he's cracked up to be because he's not Michael Jordan.

It was Jeters team and Arod knew it before he was traded here. Arod was a good third baseman whereas Jeter would not have been.

And it was the idiot Steinbrenner boys that re-signed A-rod after he opted out - that did more damage to the Yankees team than any move that involved Jeter.

back on topic, Keith Olbermann is a talented television man. He's agile with words. ... Still. If you are a TV executive who hires this man, you are a ******* idiot.
He makes his show all about him. He tries to be funny and he is just corny and he is awful at doing highlights. I never understood what was so great about him. A few months ago he kept name dropping Jeter in storie on his show and not long after he was bashing Jeters cleats and these two rants. I have a feeling Jeter told him that they werent friends and Keiths feelings were hurt.

This post makes no sense because Duncan is underrated. The media doesn't force feed Duncan to us to convince us he is great. He is great and always has been great. Even as Duncan gets older he still dominates games.

Kind of my point. If Duncan played for the Lakers, he would be "shoved down our throats", but that doesn't change anything about his play on the court. He would still be the same player, just more popular. Just as Jeter would be Jeter, but less popular, if he had 5 rings with a different team. If you have a problem with how the media treats Jeter, why make your stance against him and his on-the-field legacy so personal. Duncan deserves your accolades and praise because he plays for the Spurs, but other guys who similarly dominate on more popular franchises don't? Come on.

It's not personal. Jeter is a great player. If putting him in the same class as Biggio (probably just above) means I'm calling him bad then I guess I am calling him bad. I am just saying people think he is twice as good as he is because of the media telling them that his whole career and the quality of his teams throughout his career. He has been a quality face of the game for years and good at not getting caught doing anything bad (I don't just mean steroids I mean anything). He is a sure fire HOFer and deserving, but he is overrated by the media and masses. Just look at him vs Arod for their career. Arod was what makes a first ballot HOFer (obviously he won't get in at least for awhile because of the issues that came out recently). How many years did Jeter match Arod? Without doing research my guess is 1 or 2.

The media shoves Lebron down our throats too. I hate it, but I don't for a second think he is overrated. Jeter just isn't on THAT level. Again great player, but they make him out to be a legend and he just isn't. IMO

Successes and failures are much larger in New York. Ballplayers are under the microscope.

Exactly. These Jeter bashers seem to have a problem with the media and/or the Yankees and their fanbase, but take it out on the player instead of the media and/or the team/fanbase. Jeter can't help it that he was drafted by the Yankees and had 5-Championship success. Was he supposed to not try so people wouldn't be butt-hurt. He played hard for a long time, gave it his all, had the 6th most hits in baseball history, legendary Playoff stats, helped his team win 5 World Series', etc. and gets crapped on for it. Hate-on the hype, not the player. Dude was a beast, whether they like it or not.

So does that mean Ichiro will get a year long farewell tour next year? I mean he's just as good a player as Jeter.

If calling Jeter a sure fire HOFer is crapping on him then yes I am crapping on him. He just should not be considered in the ranks of the legends.

Jeter is good, but he is certainly no Chad Mottola*!

* Drafted one spot before Jeter and owner of a .200 MLB batting average over parts of five seasons with four teams.
