Can't say if I was a college Football Star I wouldn't sign autos for money. No way NCAA should make money off me and I not get a cut. If they tried to make money off me I'd sue them for using my name and likeness with out my permission.

Searching for demarcus wares and gavin escobars.

The issue at hand is that players give up their rights to their names and likeness when they agree to accept the scholarships and/or play for the team(s). And while they're playing for the team any media associated with them, etc. is the property of the NCAA/getty/etc. I believe that this is what the O'Bannon case is all about.

There was a 9th Circuit Court ruling in Keller v. Electronic Arts where they judges upheld a decision by a lower court that EA cannot use The First Amendment as a basis for using players' likenesses without permission. - Ninth Circuit Rules Against EA in Keller v. Electronic Arts - LAW OFFICE OF DAN LEE ROGERS

This is the same circuit where the O'Bannon case will be decided.

You think college players will get paid in 10 years? All sports and divisions or what? I'd be interested in you clarifying...

i think to some degree all divisions. don't know about other sports but football definitely. i know they get education but it doesnt help them if they get injured before the draft. personally i think the players should get paid a percentage based on total sales of the likeness that the NCAA robs from the players. if i were the players i'd get a college union going and fight for whats right.

It was an astute move by Leaf to be able to distance themselves from this guy via a few layers of removal. I don't doubt that "whoever" commissioned these signings is smarter than to send a company representative. It's much easier if the autographs just show up at your door one day and you happily ship them away to PSA/DNA without ever having to watch the dirty deed go down. This broker likely went into the situation with the knowledge that if it hit the fan there would be no paper trail leading back to the distributors who set the whole thing up. That would be bad business. He made the cardinal mistake of getting caught. Now he's a one man operation. Omerta.

Kinda off topic, but the players get paid (education) so playing football is in essence a job. So if a player would get hurt/ unable to play shouldn't they get workmans comp for as long as they aren't able to play football ?

I think that college players should be allowed to be paid for their time to sign autographs. This is no way makes them a professional. If they want to go and spend a few hours signing autographs and be compensated for doing that, I think that the NCAA should stay out of that. It's better than doing it for free and then having someone else profit off or your work and autographs.

So if I want to buy a jersey, say jersey number one, which player would get a cut of that? The current player or everyone who played wearing number one before the current one?
