I love the irony that Leaf is suing Panini over the word "Prism", in that Leaf cites ownership of "Prismatic"... which is a technology they directly obtained from Topps Refractors.

Good thing card sales are strong. Keeping attorneys in Texas in business.

Just going through the complaint, there are two errors in the first two pages... Item 6 - Leaf does not have an online store? They certainly do, located at ebay.com... and Item 7 - Leaf "created" the distinctive mark, "Prismatic" -- which obviously Chris Gilmore created......

Eh, I'm not sure how I feel about this. Part of me thinks this is just BG being pissed that Gilmore didn't think of PRIZM instead of "prismatic". Prizm just looks way cooler. Plus Panini decided to use Prizm as the brand like Chrome. Leaf is using Metal and Valiant as the brands that use "prismatic" technology. I will say that the blog post sighting "prizmatic" by Panini was a cheap shot.

First off, "Prismatic" is not some original name newly minted by Gilmore or Leaf. It existed almost a decade ago and was used for a certain parallel of Be A Player hockey cards, which were manufactured by Pinnacle. Now, as mentioned above, there was a product called Prism in the past. It was manufactured by Pacific.

Both Pinnacle and Pacific eventually ended up becoming the property of, say it with me, kids - Panini. Panini owns the properties of Pinnacle and Pacific, which would contain both "Prism" and "Prismatic". (really, Prism has been used for a multitude of products by other manufacturers in the 90s and late 80s, including some non-sport products)

Leaf is suing Panini for saying "Prizmatic" claiming that it is ripping off their "Prismatic" name...which is actually a rip off of the Prismatic and Prism name already owned by Panini. It's a rip off within a rip off. There's some Inception* level stuff going on here.

* Please don't sue me for saying "Inception", Topps. I mean the movie, not your product.

Pretty sure Panini is not causing damage to Leaf's reputation by selling Prizm as alleged in the document. Does anyone know a single collector who is confused between Panini Prizm colored Prizms and Metal's Prismatic parallel? Any damage to Leaf's reputation will be self inflicted.

Are the titles of ebay auctions really being used as exhibits in the complaint? Wow. I'm a little disappointed that HOT L@@K SP and $$$$ were not also listed.

They don't call it a Superfractor. It's the "Gold Prismatic"....

Although Brian Gray has referred to it as "super style". Kind of funny that he's doing the same thing to Topps that Leaf is suing Panini for. Somebody should email Topps and let them know Leaf is now using a Topps trademark to describe their product so they can unleash the legal hounds :lol:.

We did white prismatics last year in football (1/1) and they received little fanfare..

We have been working on a new metal technology which will be unveiled soon..
Crazy cool and 100% guaranteed Topps and Panini will copy it...

As far as 1/1, we will probably keep the turned gold (super style) and add a new technology 1/1 to see market feedback..
