Why all the hate for LeBron? Is it just all the Prima Donna BS and ego stroking so far this summer? It looks like it actually wasn't about the money and it was about winning.

When they says "it's not about the money".....it's about the money.

I'm glad this narcissistic, egotistical publicity stunt is over.

Florida doesn't have a state income tax. Kill the talk about taking less money.

If it was just about the money wouldn't he have chosen either the Cavs (highest possible salary) or the Nets (who had a plan laid out to make him a billionaire)? The endorsements will be there regardless of what team he was on.

I will wait and see what the full details of the contract are before I can REALLY comment. ;)

As of 2009 per http://www.salary.com

Ohio's state income tax for 200K and over is 5.9%
NY state income tax for 20K and over 6.85%
NJ state income tax for 500K and over is 8.9%

He definitely took less to go to Miami. The other teams could have offered him a lot more than 10%

Very fair. I can't wait to see all of their contracts. Mainly to see if they all left money on the table to sign Chris Paul after next season.

A letter from Dan Gilbert posted on the Cavs website

Dear Cleveland, All Of Northeast Ohio and Cleveland Cavaliers Supporters Wherever You May Be Tonight;

As you now know, our former hero, who grew up in the very region that he deserted this evening, is no longer a Cleveland Cavalier.

This was announced with a several day, narcissistic, self-promotional build-up culminating with a national TV special of his "decision" unlike anything ever "witnessed" in the history of sports and probably the history of entertainment.

Clearly, this is bitterly disappointing to all of us.

The good news is that the ownership team and the rest of the hard-working, loyal, and driven staff over here at your hometown Cavaliers have not betrayed you nor NEVER will betray you.

There is so much more to tell you about the events of the recent past and our more than exciting future. Over the next several days and weeks, we will be communicating much of that to you.

You simply don't deserve this kind of cowardly betrayal.

You have given so much and deserve so much more.

In the meantime, I want to make one statement to you tonight:

"I PERSONALLY GUARANTEE THAT THE CLEVELAND CAVALIERS WILL WIN AN NBA CHAMPIONSHIP BEFORE THE SELF-TITLED FORMER ‘KING’ WINS ONE"

You can take it to the bank.

If you thought we were motivated before tonight to bring the hardware to Cleveland, I can tell you that this shameful display of selfishness and betrayal by one of our very own has shifted our "motivation" to previously unknown and previously never experienced levels.

Some people think they should go to heaven but NOT have to die to get there.

Sorry, but that's simply not how it works.

This shocking act of disloyalty from our home grown "chosen one" sends the exact opposite lesson of what we would want our children to learn. And "who" we would want them to grow-up to become.

But the good news is that this heartless and callous action can only serve as the antidote to the so-called "curse" on Cleveland, Ohio.

The self-declared former "King" will be taking the "curse" with him down south. And until he does "right" by Cleveland and Ohio, James (and the town where he plays) will unfortunately own this dreaded spell and bad karma.

Just watch.

Sleep well, Cleveland.

Tomorrow is a new and much brighter day....

I PROMISE you that our energy, focus, capital, knowledge and experience will be directed at one thing and one thing only:

DELIVERING YOU the championship you have long deserved and is long overdue....

If he is gonna put so much toward adding to the team, why wouldnt he do it when Lebron was still there? He begged for a proven star and they give him a broken down Shaq and an often injured Jamison.

Cheapskates shouldnt be betting on anything.

uhh name a team with three superstars in the past that has failed? There has not been one so what are you basing your argument on? The closest there has been in basketball recently has been jordan and pippen, kobe and shaq and that turned out pretty good

The Lakers had 4. Shaq Kobe, Malone, and Payton. Yes Malone and Payton were at the end of their career but that was 4 bonafide superstars.

haha are you being serious...payton and malone were TERRIBLE, saying they were at the end of their career is putting it light

Are you honestly telling me that at the beginning of that year you didn't think the Lakers would win it all? Malone was not terrible he was serviceable. Payton was terrible though. Hell people were actually talking about them making a run at the Bulls record.

were they the favorites..yes, but to say they are comparable to wade bron and bosh is funny (and that lakers team made it to the finals to)

I'll take that exact team that year over this Miami Heat team any day of the week. You have proven winners in Shaq, Kobe, and Malone. Face it the only reason Malone doesn't have a ring is Jordan. That team will mop the floor with this team. Bosh is not a super star.[/quote:2gchko4d]

malone was terrible on the lakers plain and simple

first off i like the lakers so i dont want to see the heat win, im just telling you that the people you are naming off dont even come close to lebron and wade and bosh[/quote:2gchko4d]

im confused

never heard you say you liked a team before

weird

Not to bring it back up - but this is to whoever said the Lakers weren't a super-team.
Obviously Shaq and Kobe were in their prime - but you dismissed both Malone and Payton......yes they were older, but here were their stat lines the year before. These were the numbers they were bringing to LA.

Malone - 20.6 PPG 7.8 Reb

Payton - 20.4 PPG 8.3 Ast 4.2 reb

So really- you're going to say those 2 were bums? Granted the age left them with a very small window, but you're going to say that wasn't on par with this at least for that immediate year after?
Malone contributed quite a bit until his injury in the playoffs. Payton didn't really do much that year and really disappeared in the playoffs leaving Shaq & Kobe in a lurch. Had Malone stayed healthy I think that they could have been given the Pistons all they could handle, but it didn't work out that way. I think had Minnesota went to the finals against the Pistons that year the playoffs would have been more competitive.

I could be wrong on this, but I had heard this before talking in the LCS... Pro players pay the state tax for each game they play to the state that the game is played in. So, he would only have no taxes on 50% of his salary by playing in Miami. He's still paying taxes for every road game (other than Orlando).

I don't know if that's true or not but it's very interesting. I would like a solid answer on it. If it is true than no state tax in FL is irrelevant.

What a clown

I wonder just how much he's willing to bet because I would love to take that bet for whatever he's willing to lose. He's shamelessly trying to circle the wagons.
