So if the Phillies do sign him, they'll have dealt him for three middling prospects in order to save cash, signed Blanton to an extension, will now dump Blanton to afford Lee, and surrender a 1st round pick to sign him. All while losing out on a (great) year of his services. What a weird route.

The silly thing about that deal is that they had a totla breakdown in communication. My uncle talked to hi after the trade and Lee told him he was shocked. Apparantly he was willing to take less to stay. He never intended on leaving Phili and tey turned around and traded him.

Lee told thd phills he would not negotiate until his current contract was up. He wanted to test the free agent waters. The phills sounded like they didnt want to give him the money he wanted. This was after CC signed that deal. Automatically you assumed he wanted as much and more

I didnt assume anything. Im telling you what he told my uncle.

Also, the Phillies probably give him the best chance to win because Texas won't get past Boston or the Yanks again. Get ready for an NLCS rematch, which is fine with me. Call it stupid, but the brass knows we're in a win now window... and getting Lee back just kept the window up for another few years

Cain doesn't hit arbitration...he is locked in till 2013-14. Lincecum will likely be signed to a long term deal using the Zito money. Lincy is only 26 compared to Lee's 32 with back problems.

Can't believe people are calling this a stupid deal after what Werth got. If anything they got a steal based on current market value. After all the Yankees were offering seven years 150 million dollars and he took five years at a 100 million dollars. Pitching wins championships. One thing I will say is that Ruben Amaro Jr, is unlike almost every general manager out there, I have no idea what other guy would admit his mistake like this and go and get Lee back. Obviously it was a horrible trade, none of the guys' that they got for Lee are in their current top 10 according to Baseball America. Their past excuse was they could only keep Halladay and they thought he was better than Lee; Halladay is great and I might agree with that assessment, but its clear that they can keep both. I think the Phillies were the best team in the National League going into today and they are head and shoulders above anyone else after today. This team was already VERY GOOD.
