What's crazy to me, the Phils #4 starter, Cole Hamels, could be the #1 guy on a majority of teams.

No matter what anyone here says, if they win a couple of series, its all worth it. The fact is that no matter what, they have now cemented the fact they are contenders for at least 2 -3 years down the road.
They have the best staff by far in baseball. Imagine 3 years ago if someone were to ask you if Cole Hamels would ever be a #4 starter. Thats how good they are.
Regarding him leaving money on the table, 100 million is still 100 million.
Believe me when I say there is no way Lee will live any better on $154 million than the $100 million hes making now.
$154/7 or $100/5 equates to $22 million/ year vs $20 million/year. Factor in personal happiness over the next half decade and its not really that surprising.
The one team I do feel bad for is Texes. I am not a fan of them but to get that far then lose the guy who got you there must really suck!

This is obviously a great signing for Philadelphia and makes them the prohibative World Series favorite out of the National League. The Giants are similar to the 1988 Dodgers in that they had a magical run fueled by pitching and clutch hitting from a weak lineup. Buster Posey is a stud but everyone else is pretty mediocre. Look at the 2010 Mariners to see how a bad lineup can kill a team. The Cardinals and Reds are probably the biggest challengers to Philly in 2011.
There are a lot of sour grapes in this thread. Lee will be a stud for at least 2-3 more years and better than average after that. I wish my team had signed an ace for two years less than anticipated. You do too, unless you're in denial.
