I love how the Giants fans come out of the woodwork after winning the WS this last year. I am predicting that they miss the playoffs altogether in 2011 never mind compete for any more titles. That was the worst team that I have ever seen win a WS. To the Phillies fans: Congrats on Lee and thanks for keeping him out of NY :D .
+1. they were not that good of a team. they were LUCKY! i would rather be lucky than good anytime. they will do a player dump in August. THEY HAVE NO MONEY!!!!!

The Cliff Lee wife story is true. She absolutely did not want to go to New York, and she did not want to stay in Texas because all of Lee's relatives were coming to his games. That was getting old very quickly for her.

I bet she's just adored by the inlaws.

If she's vomited on while in Philly, she'll probably demand a trade.

Lee = OVERRATED!

He's been in the majors for 9 years, and only twice has won more than 14 games. In the last 5 years, he had one terrific Cy Young season; in the 4 years wrapped around that one, he was 45-41, and his teams were a combined 54-57 in his 111 starts. He's given up more than a hit an inning for his career, and minus his Cy Young season his career ERA is over 4.00.
He takes his game to another level in the playoffs.
He definitely does... 0-2 with a 6.94 ERA in the 2010 World Series, other than that he has been good though.

I was wondering how long it would take for someone to bring up that Lee can't handle the pressure of the big show. Money (and alot of it) well spent! ::facepalm::

Who knew Giants fans would be so obnoxious?
they are turning into Yankees fans part 2!

I don't remember being tihs obnoxious in December of 2008.

You won the World Series. Celebrate it. Buy lots of SF WS swag for Xmas. Enjoy it. Don't put others down.

See ya next year.

Hmmmm... Maybe because it feels better to EARN a Championship than to BUY one.

why are giants fans so pissed off?

this is a great move overall

Because they're **********, Miggy. Because they're **********.

No one said anything about the Braves, the Mets, the Giants, nothing, it was all about Cliff Lee. Then 4 ********* Giants fans have to come in here and try to rain on the Phillies phans parade.

You guys won last year. Congratulations. You had a season where everyone played well above their ability and you won a World Series. No one can take that away from you. Let's see how you do this year.

Shut the frick up, go to another thread if you don't like hearing about Cliff Lee.

We bought a championship in 2008? With whom? Our pitching rotation was Hamels (drafted), Brett Myers (drafted), Joe Blanton (relatively even trade - at the time it seemed we gave up too much in Adrian Cardenes and Josh Outman), and Jamie Moyer (hardly a high priced free agent). Our lineup? Victorino, a RULE 5 pickup, Rollins, Utley, Howard, Burrell, Carlos Ruiz (ALL homegrown), Werth, a low priced free agent that Baltimore and LA didn't want, and Pedro Freaking Feliz.

So tell me how we bought a championship in 2008. *********.

I have a die hard hatred for the Braves and always will, Dont even ackowledge them as a MLB team. But in the 1990's as they dominated the Phillies and league with there insane bullpen. I would time after time praise them for that dominance in the league with the powerhouse pitching staff. Why Giants fans are sitting here acting like the Phillies rotation is nothing and Matt Cain is a better pitcher than Lee amazes me. The Phillies have the ability to win 100-110 games in 2011 with strong run support, Losing Werth is not really a big hit to the team honestly. I love the thread where the OP thinks Lee will be traded half season, Put the pipe down and come back to reality. Signing him was obviously done because of the mistake of trading him. Ownership would not allow Amaro to go over his budget and they traded him. The Phillies want a 4th straight NLCS return with a trip to the WS and a another win. Cant wait to see what happens with the Blanton trade, Hope they get Grienke honestly. Dont really care if he is a headcase, He has four people to help him with his maturing on the mound. Lee signed with the team he sees as giving him a ring and more post season apperances and cant blame him. Sobering to see a player make a choice over rings then a paycheck. Giants won on pitching alone and for over a month couldnt score over 3 runs in a game. This rotation will make sure what happened in the NLCS wont happen again. Have a feeling if it comes to a game 7 NLCS, You will see starters come in a relievers to secure a win. A nice long time to study Brian Wilson films and figure him out to take him down.

Just wondering who said the Phillies rotation is nothing? They are damn good, the Giants rotation is the rotation/staff I would rather have though.

Plenty have with stating WAR as a stat stating how much better the Giants is and how Cain is dominate and better than Lee. How the giants will destroy the phillies current rotation. I would rather have the Phillies right now over any rotation in the league right now. Have a feeling another pitcher will be added with a Blanton trade. A nice Blanton, Cash, Minor League offer will be made for a CY winner soon enough. Nothing wrong with loving your team, Its dumb to act petty over thinking cause they won a WS that they're going to win every year. Come opening day, That trophy means nothing.

They used WAR so I used WAR, who said the Giants would destroy the phillies current rotation? They won't win it every year, but the Giants rotation isn't in their 30s...plus they have a MUCH better bullpen.

Problem is that the Giants have already beaten that rotation, I would take the youth in the Giants rotation and as far as Cain being not as good as Lee can someone pleae point to stats that say they aren't atleast equal at this point in their careers? Right now their stats are close, even both have dominated in the post season, so why do you believe they aren't equals?

For Lee, through his first 6 seasons:
http://www.baseball-reference.com/players/l/leecl02.shtml#2002-2007-sum

Cain's career:
http://www.baseball-reference.com/players/c/cainma01.shtml

At this point Cain is a full run better in ERA, almost triple the WAR, more K's, less hits, hr and runs allowed and more wins. Seems that Cain is on the same track to be as good or better than Lee.
He is on track to be much better, plus look at their stats that I posted...quite similar.

When Cain wins a Cy Young, He will be an equal to Lee.
Cain has 4 years before he has to do that to be on the same pace as Lee...plus Lee never had Lincecum pitching in front of him ::facepalm::
