The Giants fans conveniently forget that their garbage lineup isn't likely to produce clutch hitting at the perfect time like it did last year. Yup, like the Phillies were supposed to win the WS on paper last year...watch the games play out and we shall see, the only team that can give them competition is the Rockies and their pitching has no chance of matching the Giants. Huff and Tejada aren't garbage fyi, LOL...also Sandoval is in much better shape and there are reports that he has been doing much better...you also forgot about Freddy Sanchez, former batting champ, and Torres will be back and better.

When Cain wins a Cy Young, He will be an equal to Lee.

So one great season make a pitcher, not the rest of his career? Cain's '09 season was dang close to the numbers that Lee put up during his Cy Young season, just more walks and less win. But Cain had no offense backing him up and Lincecum won the Cy Young that season.

And fans of the rest of baseball forget that the Giants hit the most HR in the league in the second half of the season, won the most games in the second half of the season, won the second most games in the NL and Posey didn't play a full season. They aren't as "terrible" as everyone tries to make them out to be. I agree on paper the Phillies are better, but they lost a lot in the middle of their line up by losing Werth. No protection for Howard, losing the power in the middle of the line up, and his defense saved runs and games. His intangibles will be hard to replace and the Phillies weren't superstars at the plate last season either.

Huff isn't terrible but he is MLB average for his position and doesn't hold a candle to guys like Votto, Pujols, Howard, and Fielder. Tejada is old, mediocre at best, and will provide no range at SS. Freddy Sanchez' OPS hasn't cracked .750 for the last three years. Freaking Torres is 32 years old and didn't even play half a season last year after not being in the majors for 5 years, so counting on him to replicate his stats is a big-time reach. Sandoval needs to bounce back and prove his rookie year wasn't a fluke. This is a flat-out mediocre lineup that will have to be carried by excellent pitching again.

The 2010 Giants were a fun team to watch precisely because they had a bunch of mediocre to above average hitters step up and play over their heads in the second half and in the playoffs. It was impressive to see those guys clutch up. However, average players that get hot always regress to the mean, and when the Giants hitters do this year that team will struggle mightily to score runs.

True, but Sanchez was hurt most of the start of the season, Torres was hurt for a large portion of the end of the season and they both had decent numbers. If Sandoval returns to 3/4 of his rookie season then the Giants are already better and Tejeda will replace the numbers put up by the rotation at SS the Giants had last season. They don't need to be great, but I don't think that they will have a tremendous fall off from last season. No one, except Torres, had a career year. So I don't see a terrible season.

The problem is that their hitting is so mediocre it prevents them from being a likely 95-100 game winner, which the overall strength of their pitching should lead to. The Phillies are the favorite because their hitting is good enough to get them to an automatic 95-100 wins along with those arms. You have to make the playoffs to win the Series, so the Phillies are the favorite because they are the only NL team that is a lock to make the postseason unless numerous major injuries derail them (a risk that every team faces).

Phillies fans weren't this unbearable after they won. White Sox weren't this unbearable after they won. Yanks fans and Sox fans are generally unbearable (I say generally, I do enjoy and appreciate some of them), so when they win, it is nothing new.

But since the end of the World Series, a decent portion of the San Fran fans on the board have become absolutely unbearable. There are a few of you I enjoy reading and have been rather level headed and not annoying (Ron, Lisa, Wes, darocker to name a few).

I have to agree here. I've said it for days now, since the Lee signing......these Giants fans are straight up unbearable. All of them. (good call on Lisu not being obnoxious)

Close only counts in horeshoes. I dont care who is on track for what, Saying Cain is on track to be a better pitcher makes no sense. You negate Lee's Cy Young and I can do the same with Lincecums, Whats the point of that arguement though? And the Giants never beat the Phillies new line up, Because the season has not started. Giants pitching gives up a lot of runs and your offense cant give run support. Howard is on a hot streak and games come out differently, I bash Howard all the time for not being consistent. You won the NLCS because of his slump.
