Because the rule says the runner gets 2 bases based on where he was when the ball was pitched. He could have scored and been in the dugout and would have been sent back to third. Started on 1st, 2 bases gives him 3rd.

No the rule is the ump can decide if the runner would of scored on the play. Its the umps call.

Not when an infielder is the one making the throw. ITs based on where the runner was when the ball was pitched. The runner was on 1st so he gets 2 bases putting him on 3rd.
