Great to see the card with new owner. Agree $350 is nuts but playing a little DA here, there is no guarantee the card would ever show up again if the price wasn't met. It could get lost, stolen, destroyed in fire or by USPS, etc. You pay a premium for time. In fact I should buy 90% of my cards 10 years after they come out as they usually end up costing 90% less.

It's the other 10% that hurts. I had a few over the years that stand out:

At a Willow Grove, PA show in the late 70's I had the chance to buy either a 51 Bowman Mantle or Mays for $100 each, near mint smokers. I passed on both.

Then at the AC National in the late 80's there was a table with two large bins in front of it. One was filled with Star Co Roger Clemens sets, the other with 86-87 Fleer Basketball sets with the stickers. Both items were $6 each, and there were dozens of each. I'll never forget, the Fleer sets were wrapped in siran wrap, lol.

I bought all the Clemens sets.

Even though his customer was pretty clearly trying to take advantage of the situation, great job by Warren, and it's nice to see Jason get the card. The generosity of numerous members on this board never ceases to amaze me. I think with the ways both the economy and collecting itself has changed over the past 15 years or so, we often lose sight of the fact that this is, at its core, a hobby. It's always nice to see cards in the hands of people who will truly appreciate them for one reason or another, rather than just collecting dust in a box.

That picture would have been hilarious if he left off the word card in his note...

That's cool.

He should of worn the same shirt as on the card. :)

He sold it to Topps for future use.

I guess a caption to that picture could be Wong holding Wong?

He sent you a few signed pics of himself?? WHAT? Does he collect? I would of send a bit more than a signed
pic of myself, who does this guy think he is Albert Pujols? If you want a card really bad I can understand
not having enough money, but you can always sell cards or even trade them and in your case this guy should
of given you some trade. Are you telling me he broke the code and only opened up 2 pack of Ginter?

pretty cheap if you ask me.

You're missing the whole boat here. He sent me a thank-you note on a picture of himself holding the card. That's full-circle to me, much more valuable than anything he might have given me otherwise.

The pictures were totally unexpected, and incredibly appreciated.

Just further proof that Jason is a quality individual & further confirmation that I did this for a truly great guy that really appreciated it.

There's nothing negative whatsoever going down here, IT'S ALL GOOD bro.

Did Jason ever finish the complete set of his Allen & Ginter cards?

The last that I heard, he still needed one or two of the plates.

Getting all 5 1/1's is tough, I've been searching for 2 of the Kevin Van Dam ones for 2 years now. I think Jason still needs a few.

If you include the Topps blank back card, then there are actually 6 1/1's.

Has anyone ever completed a run of Allen & Ginter cards?

I have everything of Loren Opstedahl, the champion sheep shearer, except the cyan printing plate. That plate is tucked away in another collector's PC.

Ah man that sucks I know how much you wanted that plate.

You can't pry it away from him?

I have all but the yellow plate from 2006, which I have never seen. From 2007 I'm missing three plates, one of which is locked away in another's collection. Moreso than with other sets, I think Allen & Ginter actually affords a chance at collecting all of a player's cards, as so much of the product is broken on a yearly basis.

That's dumb.If I had a plate of your player...as long as I was sent another plate of a player I do collect...I'd let go of it sure enough.Hopefully one of you at least gets that chance.I mean...its not hard to hop on ebay and snag another plate of a random player.
