lol @ $350

If the guy who cracked it is in fact a reseller, then just wait till it shows up on eBay and buy it for dirt cheap.

Man, see here's where sports card loons and I diverge...if I had a card like this, was able to get in contact with the guy and knew how much he wanted it...the card would be in his hands no problem, no charge. Taking a hit on a hobby to make someone else in such a rare circumstance happy beats the hell out of gouging any day.

Please don't shoot the messenger guys, I agree but it is the only one in the world. Not to defend the price but I can tell you that he is also out $800+ on a case that he pre-bought on Ebay & never got. He's not a bad guy, but he is a businessman.

 Seriously, how much are you making on this? Jeez. :|

I thought about this as well, but I didn't want to be "that guy".

I'm just callin' it as I see it (I normally try not to be "that guy" either but this is somewhat ridiculous trying to come off as being a charity offer when it really seems like someone is padding thier wallet)... I guess I got this vibe yesterday in Allincard's thread where he was selling off case's/boxe's & this same member post's in the thread trying to move the same product cheaper (not a classy move) :D

that isn't how hobby economics work.

When you buy wax, you buy potential. The potential is now reality, and the secondary market sets prices for singles. It is clear what that type of card SHOULD sell for, as non sports 1/1's aren't exactly rare. However you guys are looking to inflate the price because you suspect the buyer might chase.

The problem comes when the buyer calls your bluff and does not chase. He is the only potential big spender for that card, and quite honestly it is worth what he would reasonably pay vs what a set collector would pay.

I agree with you 100%, don't get me wrong. I was sort of poking fun at you. No insult intended.

I do think this is sort of an odd situation. It doesn't sit right with me for a number of reasons.

I'll just reiterate what others have already said because there's nothing much new to add really. His asking price is way way too high and he's basically holding the card ransom in hopes that Jason will bite the bullet and pay that much for the card. No one else will even come close to paying that price and he knows it.

The OP should have probably not mentioned he knew the kid on the card before asking him to sell it.

I've been ridden a lot lately on some things so I wasn't going to be outright with it. The guy is rediculous at $350, and I don't think that, as "your client", should you go above and beyound to meet what would be an ATROCIOUSLY overpriced sale.
Give the guy his pick of a few boxes at cost and let him take the $125 and skip.

I'm glad I'm not the only one who thinks its crazy!
Nice idea, but that price is outrageous. If he pulled a scrub wood and their was a collector on here that collects him do we say lets pay $350 for the card so we can get it for him? Semi-stars are not selling in that neighborhood! I would tell your "client" to sit on it! Put it on the bay and see how many Wong collectors there is. Maybe Jason can trade your client a few cards for it, besides Jason the card is probably worthless.....

I guess this wasn't such a good idea. My apologies if I offended anyone. My intentions were not to do anything of the sort.

I will purchase the card for Jason.

I think that's the best thing to do. If the case cracker is a loyal customer of yours and Jason a friend, you should get him the card, and hopefully the case cracker will use the funds to buy more cards from you.

I was not offended, and I certainly hope I didn't offend you either. Surely you can understand where some of us are coming from with the skepticism. I apologize if I ran you over.

I've seen shop owners trade an unopen $80 boxes retail (which he bought wholesale direct) and trade it for a Pujols auto /25.
Come on. You have the shop, you want the card for a friend, trade him a box or two.......

Seems to be the most logical idea. If not a box or two, possibly store credit.

Nice gesture, but 350 is beyond ridiculous. Even w/crazy a&g collectors (though not many chase the 1/1 set), the card wouldn’t fetch anywhere near $350. if I were you, I’d offer your friend store credit/boxes/etc. + I’d also get him to lower his price to the ballpark of reality.

Btw, why is he out $800 on a case he bought on ebay? Ebay now protects ALL buyers for the full purchase price if they pay through paypal. Just got $510 back b/c a seller stiffed me on a case. Ebay/paypal 100% buyer protection has been around since may/june, so your friend should have no problem getting back his $800- assuming of course he filed a timely claim.

Well, when you take of the "commission", it is $280, - $125 Jason will pay, sitting at $150 difference. Some store credit would probably only cost you about $100.... Not too bad.

This is garbage. Tell your client to go kick rocks. Can't stand when people try to take advantage of others like that. His break sucked, and no one is responsible for that other than himself for his gamble. No way I would even chip in .05 cents letalone $5 strictly based on principle alone.

HAHA where did he come up with a 350$ price tag? Being a shop owner you should be pissed he went elsewhere for a case and now expects your "friend" the only person who wants the card to pay for his mistake.

Something dont add up.
