We've got one store that doubles as a Coin Shop, actually baseball or cards isn't mentioned in the store name. They are doing okay I suppose, I tend to stay away from there because they're WAY overpriced. I only go in for supplies.

The one i go too here in south Florida Has low overhead because he is the only one there and His rent is cheap because of a longterm lease. But his prices on wax are as good as anyones. I bought 4 boxes of 08 Bowman sterling for 900 that is cheaper than anywhere else so I may be single handedly keeping him in buisiness but he does shows every other weekend and just did a show up in NC and will be heading to orlando around spring training.

Very nice, I love this hobby shop and buy most of my wax from here and it's sad to see that it may be closing within a month or two.

The store I work at here in Richmond VA is doing well. Its called Collectors Heaven and we have started to sell more team stuff. Like Jerseys, Chairs, Mcfarlane figures, Hats and other things. We originally were strictly cards but we just got a little bit more than we did. We have about 5 or 6 stores in the Richmond VA area which are mainly inside of malls. I work at the one at the newest mall that just opened here a few years ago.
How's that going?

Its going pretty good. Its pretty much now our main location and the suburban area that its in is heavily populated now with new schools and shops and other things. But Our first shop was just outside of the City of Richmond in a mall that was our metro area's first mall ever and ever since I started working at the new location which is very close to my house is amazing and I get pack and box discounts and very generous too since the owner knows me pretty well. I asked him what he could do for me on getting a case of something but I told him I guess I would have to work a little bit longer. He told me I could put a case of something on lay away if I wanted to so im thinking about doing that.

Hobbies and Collectibles in Gadsden Alabama is an outstanding store. Like many of the others he has had to branch out into comic books, and the gaming materials. His bread and butter is still sports cards, and he does a great job of keeping up with the times. He is fair to his customers, and pays enough attention to the market to know when to raise and lower prices.

That's the key right there. Most sports card shops around here are too specialized or ignorant of the market which in this day and age includes the internet. Sure you might be able to con some into buying BDP at $90 a box but big buyers are going to ignore your wax completely. If I could get a comparable price on wax I would go through my local shop but I'm not paying 150% of typical internet cost.

I've never heard of this place. I'll have to check it out next time I go home.

Local shop near me likes to buy product from D&A and mark it up in his shop. He pretty much assumes no one knows about online retailers and his $75 box of '08 BC is a great deal.

The other shop near me keeps a box of packs under the counter and 'refills' boxes when they get low. He also convieniently has a bunch of jerseys and autographs from his newest product for sale in his cases. After the time I bought 8 packs from a 10-pack box of Leaf Certified and pulled all base and inserts I figured out his game.

I'm a huge fan of supporting hobby shops, but seriously some of these owners need to get a clue. They think they are the know-alls of the hobby and that the buyers are unaware of other outlets to get cards and sketchy selling methods like refilling boxes and pack searching.

Out only remaining shop sells mostly Magic cards. They do most of their business on the internet so the store front is so they have access to vendors and offers that are only available to "brick and mortar" resellers. The place smells like candy and teenage boys sweat so I only go in for supplies.

No stores even remotely near me. Even where I lived previously to this (NJ), there were no stores near me. All the "local" shops I knew of once have long been gone.

For me it's Ebay or here. That's it.

The lone shop here in Rohnert Park, CA is surprisingly still going. I have never seen more than 2 other people in the shop when I am there. He has terrible selection of packs, he has stupid random hobby stuff like VHS movies, beanie babies and so many other stuff that won't sell in this century. AND all his stuff is overpriced= BC box at around 75, and unwanted single inserts for 2x book. Even though he is the only person who works there (owns it), still not sure how he stays in business.
