Longshot: Anyone know the family of Matt James?

He was a Notre Dame recruit who died in an accident.

I recently acquired his 1/1 autograph from the Razor Army set. If his parents are at all interested in having what may be his best card, I'd be happy to gift it to them.

I would suggest finding groups like this and seeing if anyone went to school with him and can help contact his family. As you know I am only a kid but I will do what I can to help you.

I'd rather avoid contacting the family unless I know that they'd be interested in the card. I was hoping that maybe someone here knew the family and could tell me if my getting in touch with them would just open wounds.

It's a longshot, I know, but I figured it couldn't hurt to check.

Thanks for your offer of help, Brian. Not sure why I didn't think of contacting you in the first place.

My concern is that I don't want someone 'cold calling' the family and potentially dredging up a painful topic (even if it is with good intentions). I was hoping that someone would know them personally or (more likely), that someone here might have sold a card to his family and could confirm whether or not the family has any interest in Matt's cards.
