Who would you vote for based on the following batting #'s from Fred Lynn in 1975 and Mike Trout in 2012?

Lynn's defense may have surpassed Trouts also, or at least could be seen as equal to it. But since most of us didn't see Lynn play in 1975, let's just make a vote based on the batting stats.

Fred Lynn's 1975 #'s:

YEAR▲TEAMLGLEVEL G AB R H TB 2B 3B HR RBI BB IBB SO SB CS AVG OBP SLG OPS

1975 BOS AL MLB 145 528 103 175 299 47 7 21 105 62 10 90 10 5 .331 .401 .566 .967

Mike Trout's 2012 #'s:

2012 LAA AL MLB 139 559 129 182 315 27 8 30 83 67 4 139 49 5 .326 .399 .564 .963

Comparing eras is tough if not impossible using those stats. Trout's WAR was over 3 points more than Lynn's so I'd go with Trout.

I imagine if they both had their rookie years in 2012 the voting would be different. Lynn basically carried the Sox into the World Series and his #'s are almost all better than Trouts. Lynn's defense was off-the-charts too.

Very similar rookie seasons and style of players, but I pick Trout based on league-leading 49 steals and 30-30 season.

Lynn's dWAR was 0.9 in 1975.....Trout's was 2.1 last year so if Lynn's defense was off the charts then that must mean Trout's was even more off the charts. Also Lynn played the 1975 season as a 23 year old....Trout played the 2012 season as a 20 year old. Trout would have won MVP easily in 1975....seriously go to baseball reference and look at the stats of the next guys in the voting like Mayberry, Fingers, etc. Although for the money, $38,000 for that kind of season was a heck of a deal for the Sox!

Lynn got himself an education. Can't hold that against him.
