I know there are a lot of people on here that like Shogun but I don't see him having a chance against Machida.

Anyone has a chance at beating anyone at that level.
Serra had no chance vs GSP the first time.
Gonzaga had no chance vs Mirko.
Randleman had no chance vs Mirko the first time also.
BJ Penn had no chance vs Hughes in their first match.
Joe Lauzon had no chance vs Pulver.

Stuff happens and if you make one tiny mistake at that level these guys are good enough to have you looking up at the ceiling wondering where you are.
If I was betting, I would imagine that Shogun would be about a 6-1 underdog but Rua is good enough to take the odds and drop $50 on.

Definitely, Machida has to be the favorite. But dont ever count anyone out in this sport. People forget, but its not liek Shogun is some chump.

I know this. But I don`t see anyone being able to beat Lyoto in his weight class for a long time. Why do you think Rampage is ducking him? He had a title fight sitting on a silver platter and declined the offer. What`s up with that? I know what`s up with that. Rampage enjoys walking and knows his legs would take a beating against Machida and Lyoto would beat him. That`s why he chose to coach TUF for the 2nd time then face Rashad. What kind of fighter turns down a title shot to do that? A fighter that knows he would lose. At least that is how I see it. But in Shogun`s case, Lyoto is just so primed right now, I can`t see him winning. And I love Shogun.

So Jackson has fought, Wanderlei x 3, Liddell x 2, Hendo, Igor V, Shogun, and Arona, but hes scared of Machida?

I dont think so man.
I think realistically, he fought 3 top 10 guys in a span of 9 months and wanted a break.
To fight the level of guys he fought every 3 months is crazy. The amount of abuse your body takes training MMA in almost indescribable unless you've trained.
I am 30 and I have a bad lower back, a torn up left knee, my left thumb is out of place from being dislocated, and my feet and hands hurt everyday from arthritis. And I only trained for 5 years off and on and fought once.

What to you think Rampage feels liek after training and fighting Griffin, Silva, and Jardine in a span of 9 months?

I don't think Rua will last long in this fight....But anything can happen. The 1 person i would like to see Machida fight is Houston Alexander,i know Alexander would 99% chance of getting tko early, but he comes out with guns blazing and his he has power & some good knees.

Rampage admitted that one big reason he wanted to be on TUF was it would give him 9 extra months to work on his game and get back to work on wrestling. To me that says he thinks he's not ready for Machida.

Or that he needs a break from fighting to train what got him to where he is in the first place.

I am not saying that Jackson beats Machida, because right now, I dont see Machida losing period.

I am disputing the fact that Jackson is in some way scared of Lyoto and is duckign him.

The man has been in there with the best the sport has seen so why all of a sudden would he do a dick tuck?

Doesnt make sense and the fact he fought 3 top 10 LHW in a 9 month span IMO means he needs some down time where he just trains without mentally preparing for a fight.

I believe he is ducking him because he is nowhere ready for the style that Machida will bring. I mean, lets face it, Rampage blocks leg kicks, well, with his legs, and Lyoto would eat him up. If Forrest had Page in retreat mode just imagine what Lyoto is going to do to him in that reguard. And after what Machida just did to Rashad in the stand up game, Rampage realized he had no shot at beating him anytime soon so he took the TUF gig and a fight with Rashad.................hence DUCKING Machida. I wouldn`t call taking a fight with Evans and coaching TUF a break like someone claimed Rampage was doing. I would call it having no interest whatsoever in fighting Machida anytime soon. THAT is how I am claiming Rampage is ducking Machida.

I don't see any fear/quit whatsoever in either Rampage or Machida. That will be a great fight if it happens.

I really really really want to see Belfort/Silva though.

I was REALLY disappointed when Rampage turned down the fight with Royoto. I had my heart set, before the Evans/Machida fight, seeing Lyoto taking the strap from Rashad then beating down Rampage next. Would have been great seeing him kick 2 fighters asses who I hate in a row while winning the belt in the process. But Rampage had to go and ruin my good time, lol.

The fight with Rashad wont take place for a long time considering the Ultimate Fight 10 finale is scheduled for Dec 5. Assuming QJ and Evans fight at the UFC's end of year show that would mean boxing day. Thats 9 months so yeah, I consider that a well deserved break.

People you need to realize that Rampage was initially offered a chance to fight Rashad for the title shot, which Lyoto ended up getting instead. That would have meant 4 top 10 LHW's he fight in 11 months. Instead he said he wanted a break and he would like to rematch the Forrest Griffin fight.

I guarantee you Rampage is not duckign anyone. Hes been in there with a whos who in their prime and hes still goign strong.
At that level everyone believe they are the best even if they have been ko'd 10 staright times.

I've been singing Machida's praises long before most of the closet-fans here knew who he was. That said, let's not forget that two short years ago Shogun was unquestionably the top LHW in the world. A couple injuries and lackluster performances later and he's a has-been? I don't think so. He's not Chuck Liddell status yet. If there's anyone that has a shot, outside of maybe Anderson Silva, of beating Machida at LHW it's Shogun.

Don't get me wrong, I don't think he'll win, but I think he has a better shot than anyone else right now.

Well, I thought I covered it in the part of my post you didn't quote. Shogun & Machida are a lot alike really. Both are good on their feet and on the ground. If Shogun can regain old form this fight could be awesome, but if Shogun v Coleman or Shogun v Griffin shows up then he'll get hammered. I guess Shogun's best chance is to take it to the ground and see if Machida's BJJ is in the same league. We haven't seen a lot of Machida's ground game other than the Sokodjou fight. Machida also has a ton of Sumo experience so getting him to the ground is easier said than done.

If Machida just threw Tito's take down attempts off like a rag doll I don't see how Shogun will have a prayer of getting him down. I do agree that if Shogun from 2 years ago shows up it should be a good fight.
