so my question is why invest this emotional connection on bumgarner as opposed to other giants prospect? to be honest with the depth in your rotation, investing emotionally in a hitter might be the better option.

I'm emotionally invested in every giant. It is a bad idea because as Duane Kuiper says "this team doesn't just let you down, it tortures you". And about the hitters, I can't tell you how badly I'd like one to break out. You want to talk about being emotionally invested and getting crushed? Two words Angel Villalona. Good god it has been a tough ride as a fan of orange and black.

It's not so much being attached as a fan. Obviously nothing is wrong with that. However, acting as though he is above any criticism or objective evaluation (aka the Obama Effect) is ridiculous. Disregarding major question marks about him is ridiculous- lost velocity and lack of an average secondary pitch. It's just that some have been completely irrational in evaluating him and proclaiming how great he is/how his major question marks don't matter, then proclaiming he is "back" based on a few decent outings in AAA.

His velocity was overhyped from the beginning. He came out of the gate slow this year but is looking fine. He's a lefty with a deceptive delivery, good command of his fastball and sits in the low 90's. He will develop a second pitch, the giants have a lot of money in him and he's young. It's pretty easy to speculate that he is going to better rather than worse. I can definitely see that he is not a sure thing but I am more in the camp that people overreacted to his slow start. He is no worse a prospect now than he was when he was dominating the SALLY league.

last I heard he was touching 93. A arsena of a fastball , a varation of a fastball( that he just learned, but already a plus pitch per some people) and working on a change up sounds like a reliever with deception. sorry guys I just don't see top of the rotation.. I don't want to see anyone fail, so I wish the kid well, its an honor to just make it to the mlb

No doubt you need three pitches to be a top of the rotation guy in the MLB. He's young enough to still develop that and if he doesn't he will end up a lefty specialist or some other role in the bullpen. Worst case scenario is he becomes Jeremy Affeldt and that wouldnt be a bad thing.
