The Chapman RC completes the 2017 Topps Update Rainbow team set, but I still need a few cards from series 1/2. Davis and Treinen were just some auction pickups of parallels I like, not tracking my team set progress on those. The incredible stupid Steve Sax card is his only "A's card" that I know of from his 7 game stint with the team in 1994 - the final 7 MLB games of his career. It's made by Cardtoons and has a 1993 copyright but there's no way that can be accurate since he signed with the A's 4/30/94. Of course since it's the '90s they had to include the obvious Bill Clinton saxophone reference.

I know I completed the basketball set, worst player selection in an insert set ever! Not one good player that I recall. I think the baseball set was just as bad. Maybe it was just the time for terrible rookie crops.

Todd Helton, Paul Konerko, Magglio Ordonez and Derrek Lee are in it.

At the time the two biggest guys were Travis Lee and Ben Grieve and both of them busted more or less. There certainly isn't a Jeter or Alex Rodriguez type player in it.

I just looked at the basketball checklist and wow that's bad. The closest thing to a decent career was Kelvin Cato or Austin Croshere. That was a great basketball rookie class too. Duncan, McGrady, and Van Horn were all rookies. Bryant, Iverson, Garnett, and Abdur-Rahim were all 2nd or 3rd year guys. That set could have been loaded.

As far as I know the lowest numbered card for Amos Otis and as close to a White Whale I can get.

Congrats! I saw that card. I like the set and the gold's /10, but if I recall it was more than I was willing to pay, not that Otis is a bad one to pick up. He had a solid career and definite fan favorite. Glad it went to someone with a passion for it.

Yeah, it was $25 BIN. This is only the second time I've seen one. The last time it was listed at $300 BIN no way was I going to pay that and the seller wouldn't budge. That made $25 look cheap.

I got a toughie in yesterday for the Helsley PC along with my usual slate of RCs and 90s goodness.

2018 Bowman Chrome Prospects Canary Yellow Refractor Autograph /10 - I really didn't want a slabbed copy but after I bought the only raw copy I've seen the eBay seller ghosted me and I had to get eBay to refund my money. The other copy out there is a BGS 10/10 and I don't want to pay the premium for a grade I don't care about. I may end up cracking this one out actually.

1998 Donruss Significant Signatures Ozzie Smith /2,000 - I've thought many times about starting this set so I grabbed an Ozzie that will go into my PC if I don't ever build the set.

2020 Stadium Club Bo Bichette RC - You can't go wrong with the photography in Stadium Club.
Bichette SC RC.jpg

1997 Circa Boss - Crazy colors and color gradients? Mix of fonts? Embossed player? These cards just scream '90s. Love them.
Griffey Circa Boss.jpg

1994 Leaf Limited Gold All Stars Ivan Rodriguez - 1994 Leaf Limited will be my next master set build since I wrapped up 1995 Select Certified. I've been slowly adding these as I see them cheap.
Rodriguez Gold All Stars.jpg

1997 UD3 Ken Griffey Jr - This is a funky little set with three designs. I'll end up building it too.

1971 Topps Rollie Fingers - There's always room in my collection for some well loved vintage. Rollie doesn't look right without his 'stache though.

2018 Topps Complete Set Variation Ronald Acuna Jr RC - I like the long term potential of these variations to grow.

Thanks for looking.

Agreed on Rollie, plus on that one his facsimile signature doesn't look anything like his nice more recent autograph. Also just wrong is when he's got a mustache but it's not quite there yet:

Zito 2004 Playoff Honors Platinum is a 1/1 that somehow sold for under $5. Not exactly the most popular set, Donruss/Leaf/Playoff churned out some duds in those days. Happy to pick up his 2004 Pristine Gold Refractor/41 as well. Herndon gets me to only 50 left for my signed 1988 Topps set. Got it through PastPros, turnaround time on the SASE was less than a week!

Late mail today brought me a couple 5x7s for the Tyler O'Neill Investment/PC. I love that Topps used his SSP pic for the online issues.

The Sapphire/25 Cespedes I believe just puts me the Factory Set Orange away from the non-1/1 rainbow for his 2013 Topps rookie cup card. Mulder is 02/25 and I had the pleasure of paying an extra $3.50 postage due becauswe the post office is so inconsistent about how it handles those stiff cardboard mailers for eBay's standard envelope shipping. Treinen is another Topps Black for the collection.

A cool jersey swatch. After investigation, it appears Donruss removed the red and blue layers of the jersey number patch, and this swatch is from the white layer under those, with the stitching remains. From the angle of the red stitching, it looks like that this swatch comes from the inner angle of the 7 patch (area circled in yellow on back of card).

My 1956 Topps Jackie Robinson arrived today. The most I have ever paid for a card but I got a smoking deal on it. Card is in amazing condition. Really stoked on it. Will probably grade this with SGC. Also picked up some more refractors. David Ortiz 2004 Bowmans best base refractor. 2007 Ichiro white refractor /660. 2006 Albert Pujols MVP refractor. 2 more 2007 Albert Pujols gold glove award white refractors /660. Huge pickup for my 1988 Topps autograph set. I hadn't seen many of these in the last couple years so it was a surprise when several popped up at once for a decent price ($69, nice). And to top it off a 2005 Topps Heritage Chrome Black Refractor Barry Zito 29/56 to go along with my 2004 and 2006 Black Refractors and complete his A's run.

Love when I check one off the PC list AND set checklist. Call me crazy but I’m determined to collect the entire 441 card set.

The Canseco 1997 Score Showcase Series Artist's proof puts me a McGwire short of the team set. And you don't see the 2000 Stadium Club Chrome First Days around much, this Tejada is 092/100 and has a bonus cameo from Nomah.

1994 Finest. The top 3 are not refractors while the bottom 3 are.

As for this, there’s a story behind it. Long story short, since the original RC of Reggie Jackson was stolen from me, I’ve always wanted to find a copy and give it back to my dad. But, I cannot locate a decent copy at a fair price, so I “settled” for this.

Another rare Helsley showed up today. I've heard print runs of 42 or 50 on these but the most any of the cards have for a PSA pop is 5. These things are just gorgeous in hand. This may be my new favorite card of Helsley honestly.

I got a nice little lot of Frank Thomas stuff in this week too. The Z Team leaves me a Griffey short of a second set. The rest are all set fills.
