Nice Doc! I threw a low fishing snipe on it to see if I could steal it. There was some others I was hellbent on winning. You got that for a good price, too.

Did you get the 1997 Spx Grand Finale?

Yeah, but that went about what I expected. It was these two that left me shocked, I could have won a lot more auctions before if I knew:

I'm beyond ecstatic about the San Jose Mercury News newspaper card. I thought I would never see that. I thought it was black and white this whole time. I have the season end one on regular stock already.

What was your high bid on the Spx? I cost you some money. I guess I should have asked if you were going after it. I had already talked to Joe about it.

$200 even. I wanted it pretty bad and thought it would be plenty to win. It looks like it will grade well, I hope that's still the case when I have it in hand.

If that was the only card I wanted I probably would have went higher but I picked up a couple other cards within the past few days. I'll post some pics when they arrive. I wanted the Grand Finale as well but at least it went to a McGwire collector. It's in good hands. Congrats.

Nice refractor doc. How do they look in-person?

Sorry I missed this post. They look good in person. I really like refractors so I find myself buying refractors that are available over most other cards.

I killed my $203 snipe on this a few hours before the auction ended. I knew you were on it and how much you love the early 80's oddballs. Glad I did because it just would have wasted your money :)

Great pickups everyone!

Man, I'm glad you did, saved me $200. I REALLY wanted to win that one to pair with my other. Thanks buddy, I love the A's years.

Are these available for less anywhere? [ebay:3arilkft] 380176783319[/ebay:3arilkft]

Ebay is the cheapest. Those bats are long out if print

I would hold off till a game model comes around
By game model do you mean one that says "Oakland Athletics" or "Cardinals" ??

I'm looking to pick up a bat to try to get signed sometime.

yes. the ones that one that says "Oakland Athletics" or "Cardinals" ??
WOULD BE IDEAL to get signed in person. if your not getting a Game Used bat signed the next best thing is a Game Model bat. they have been popping up often this past year

Thanks for the advice. There's no way I could afford a game bat right now. I'll keep my eyes open for a Cards one.

Saw the thread about the 96 Studio Silver Press Proofs and realized I didn't have one. Until now.

Now that was a tough card to track down. I'm curious how many really exist now.

Great pickup!

Definitely a great pickup, I wonder as well. Some of these issues are tough to gauge how hard they are/will be to find. I knew it was rare, but didn't think it was that hard to find until it was mentioned.
