This is like comparing apples to a really good hitting young catcher who is showing power and leads the team on both offense and defense.

^ What he said. Plenty of 1st baseman like Morneau.

Power hitting first basemen are a dime a dozen. Mauer is a beast he's in the top two in most offensive categories for catchers in the MLB and has an ungodly .467 OBP which is only outshined by a guy who has 1 hit in 1 at bat and has a slugging percentage .100+ points higher than the next highest everyday catcher. Not to mention he's solid behind the plate as well.

All I am saying is, Morneau will play for you longer than Mauer will, he already has an MVP under his belt (with a 2nd place finish last year). Mauer is clearly having a better year this year, but he also has 107 less PA than Morneau. I picked Mauer as well, but I still think many of you underrate Morneau.

First off, I picked Mauer because he is an offensive and defensive star at a premium position. However, I'm a huge Morneau fan and to say that players like him are a dime a dozen is an injustice. Morneau already owns one MVP and was a September slide short of adding a second one last year. Morneau is currently in the AL top 10 in almost every relevant hitting stat (BA - 10th, HR - 3rd, RBI - 2nd, Runs - 9th, OPS - 4th).

Morneau is one of the most underrated players in the game.

That said, Mauer is the best hitting catcher in the game which is important because it is a premium position for a hitter. Good hitting firstbasemen are everywhere. Good hitting catchers are much harder to find.

When Mauer gets old [say in like five years, when he is 30, j/k], you can always slide him over to first base.

If mauer could play 1b mauer, we need a power hitting 1b.

You willing to fork over, Lincecum, Alderson, Bumgarner, Cain and Sandoval?

Keep in mind that Mauers new found power may not continue (I am not calling it a fluke, but slugging .667 is crazy, even in limited PA), you never know:

-Morneau has slugged over .490 in 4 of his 6 seasons, with an average slugging percentage of .506.

- Mauer has slugged over .490 once in 4 seasons, compiling a .476 slugging percentage.
