An anniversary gift from my wonderful wife, a 1997 Mirror Blue Jose Canseco! The 8th anniversary is the mirror blue anniversary. A couple of less interesting recent A's cards, and the elusive "2021" Topps Big League team set, released in April 2022. They are copyrighted 2021 on the back and the player/team selection matches with a mid-2021 set. Maybe the entire run of Big League was stuck on a boat in the middle of the ocean for 6 months?

When I started learning about comics, WW2 issues stood out as the coolest. I wanted a superhero book with Nazis getting killed + a war bond stamp + an Alex Schomburg cover…finally found one that met all criteria

First up is the 2021 Mosaic "Pink Fluorescent" Dilfer, jersey number 08/10. That's my 28th version from that set. The 1996 Collector's Choice Gold Signature McGwire is a little beat up in hand but I guess I'll take it. Still need 2 more to finish off that team set and the full 1994-96 Collector's Choice Gold run. Lastly is a 2000 Paramount Holo-Green Ben Grieve 70/99. Also need 2 more to finish that team set.

Yesterday's mail:


T205 Paddy Livingston. I'm only 2 cards away from completing the A's team set but one of them is an Eddie Collins variation that will cost me a few hundred bucks.


Wide variety of goodies. 2004 Ultra Platinum Medallion Octavio Dotel 063/100...the 2004 Platinums have been especially tough for me to locate, I still need NINE for the team set. 2015 Topps Snow Camo Josh Reddick 30/99...still need 7 for that set but that includes Chris Bassitt and Mark Canha RCs. At least I have the Max Muncy RC already from back when he was nothing. 1995 UC3 Artist's Proofs Mark McGwire...need another McGwire to finish off the team set. 2020 Bowman Chrome Refractor Auto Drew Millas...this was the last "cheap" A's Refractor auto I needed from the set. 1995 Tampa Bay Bucs pocket schedule with Trent Dilfer pictured...hadn't seen one of these before so I grabbed it. Lastly a 2020 Topps Black Chris Bassitt 21/69, still chipping away at that set and have quite a few to go.

2001 Donruss Stat Line Season Paul O'Neill /70 -- completes 1999, 2000, 2001 season/career stat lines, all nine cards are going to look nice on a binder page.




2022 David Cone 1987 Autograph -- rookie card design, but in Yankees uniform with an actual Donruss rookie as a bonus. The 1987 set is iconic for me, I had tons of these as a kid, mostly "hand me downs" from my older cousins.





1993 Kanebow Gold #61 Hideki Matsui -- not as iconic as the BBM set, but perhaps the most beautifully designed Matsui rookie. It is embossed like the Action Packed cards of the early '90s. I also love the close crop on the photo and how the logos perfectly fill the empty spaces on the card. I sold my graded version during the crazy graded rookie boom of 2021, and was quite happy to buy back a raw version for a tenth of the price a year later.

This only took 15 years to find. Didn't know it existed until then, first I've seen in 33 years of collecting Grace. 1989 ABC Table-Top Games stat based card game.

I’m pretty picky about my auto cards. Good pic, classic uni, card and frame design, etc. This one fits on all counts…

2001 Fleer Legacy Derek Jeter Collection Derek Jeter 1993 Ultra "RC" Autograph -- This 1993 Ultra card was not released until 2004 and only as a redemption replacement, ~150 copies if I remember correctly. Much harder to find than the 1993 Fleer counter part which is limited to 500 copies which I picked up last year. Glad to buy this back before the ESPN Jeter documentary is released this summer.

These cards complement each other nicely and essentially complete my Jeter collection (outside my team sets). Both are from sets I opened heavily as a kid and carry a ton of nostalgia and prefer these over his actual rookie cards.

A couple of big ones in today, plus some other stuff:


1998 Topps Gold Label Class 2 Red Label Jason Giambi 13/50, completes the Class 2 "team set", which is just this one and Ben Grieve, ha. I also have both Class 1 /100 cards, but am missing both Class 3 /25's. Also a 2008 Topps Black Mike Piazza 22/57 - gets me within 3 commons of completing that team set. This was one of three higher-dollar pre-2017 Topps Black A's cards I needed...still need a 2006 Update Frank Thomas/Barry Zito and 2010 Update Josh Donaldson RC.


2000 Pacific Prism Blue Ben Grieve 26/80, still need a couple to finish off that set. Leaf Pro Set Ryan Cusick Autograph - he was picked up in the Matt Olson trade. 2008 Upper Deck Gold Huston Street team checklist 61/99 - still need 7 more to finish that set. Lastly a 2020 Bowman Chrome AJ Puk RC auto.

Seems to match all of the copies of that card on COMC.

Today's mail:


T206 Harry Davis (fielding variation) and Jimmy Dygert. Gets me down to 4 remaining for the team set. Yup they have pinholes but at least they aren't through the face or anything. I've had to lower my condition standards on these with prices continuing to go up.


2021 Mosaic "Red Camo" Dilfer is my 29th version of that card, with another incoming. This is the first Red Camo I've seen, everything else had been mislabeled much easier Pink Camos. 2017 Allen and Ginter Mini Black Stephen Vogt completes the team set. And a 2004 Sweet Spot Signature Barrels Rich Harden with a print run of 64.
