Maybe the greatest birthday present I have ever got

My mother is a really talented quilter, and a few months ago was asked to help out a charity "Wrapped up in Sports" do a quilt that the Red Sox would be signing. It is a charity that Terry Francona works with, and most of the 2010 team signed. She was the first one to work on it, and all she received was the small piece of white fabric that the team had signed. She then went to work, and built a replica of Fenway for it, the Green Monster, and the Pesky and Fisk poles.

Well they auctioned it off for charity, and they didn't list it very well. I remember seeing it end, and couldn't believe how low price wise it went for, especially knowing how much work my own mother put in to it. I wished that I had bid on it for as cheap as it went for. Well flash forward to Saturday, my birthday, and I opened my last gift to find the following for my mother and father.

She also thought it was going oto sell for way too low and put a bid in on it. The quilt is signed by all 5 Red Sox Starters (Beckett, Lester, Buchholz, Dice, Lackey) as well as the following Ortiz, Varitek, Delcarmen, Papelbon, Bard, Beltre, Youk, Pedroia, Francona, Scutaro, JD Drew, Ellsbury, Wakefield, and Boof Bonser.

I was absolutely stunned to receive this, just an amazing, amazing gift. I actually have the model of Fenway that she based the Fenway off of.

What a fantastic quilt. My guess is that this piece will be in your collection long after some of the others have gone.

They wrote on the poles, and my mom and dad wrote some messages for it, as well as a lot of Jimmy Fund kids did as well due to my mother's idea. When she did all the work on it, we never imagined we could afford to win it since we thought it was going to be auctioned off on WEEI's Jimmy Fund Telethon and would go for huge money. But they did it on Ebay with very little publicity. Hopefully they do it again next year, and can make more. It really is a great charity, people donate time to make quilts for children in hospitals. My mom has made probably around a half dozen quilts for them based on the Sox, Celtics, Patriots and Bruins.

They got me 2004, and 2007 Ortiz signed World Series balls in a few of the last years, and those will always be around, but this one really went above those and totally shocked me.

The charity had it sent directly from Terry Francona to my mother, I am not selling it, and have zero doubts about authenticity so no reason to spend the money. It has a little certificate from the charity on the back saying who signed it and what not. Including that my mother worked on it.

I remember seeing the auction end, and being sick to my stomach that something that cool had gone for so cheap. We had pictures of it along the way of it being made as well including some with it and Lil' Papi after my mom got done with it.

Happy belated B-day too. In the future if you want to get all those pesky stains out (as it looks like someone wrote all over that beautiful quilt) then use "Shout" laundry bleach/deterrgent, it'll have that quilt clean & good as new in no time!!! :lol:


Great gift from your parents, tell em you're looking forward to using the quilt during the cold winter night's but first you need to wash it & remove all the ink stains. (see what they say/how they react?) :lol:

Yeah, I was genuinely shocked. It meant a ton especially since I had seen it every step of the way and we never figured it would end up with us.
