damn, y'all have some strong opinions about someone y'all dont even know. yes, any time someone dies is a tragedy, but (and not to go religious on everyone) but if you die by your own hand, you are sent to hell. it's in the bible. i have known people who have committed suicide and didnt shed one tear over it because like a previous poster said, it is the cowards way out. the way some of y'all lash out over anothers opinion, no matter how thought out and lucid the thought is, is nuts, especially if it differs from your own opinion. (schmidtfan20's post doesnt apply here). if fanny were shot and killed by someone else then i would be very upset as i remember watching him play as a child and young . since he off'd himself i'm not as upset about it.

i hope this post comes accross as a well thought out answer as i tried to be as civil as possible about the suicide but i know some of the ******** here will say even more stupid shat because they are more ignorant than they lead on and speak about topics they know nothing of.

Could you please give me the bible verse?

there isn't one

(1 Corinthians 6:19-20 NIV) [19] Do you not know that your body is a temple of the Holy Spirit, who is in you, whom you have received from God? You are not your own; [20] you were bought at a price. Therefore honor God with your body.

(1 Corinthians 3:16-17 NIV) [16] Don't you know that you yourselves are God's temple and that God's Spirit lives in you? [17] If anyone destroys God's temple, God will destroy him; for God&'s temple is sacred, and you are that temple.

suicide as a sin is not specifically spoken based on the language during the time the bible was written, it is, however, implied.

i was not trying to turn it into a religious thing as i am far from religious these days. people who kill themselves i just have zero respect for regardless of who it is... if this offends anyone, then those particular people have serious problems.

This sort of thinking drives me nuts. People only quote the bible when it proves their point. According to the bible it's also a sin to... Accuse, be afraid, be angry, be anxioys, arrogant, ashamed. That's just the A's. I could go on.

Big picture, bible says to love thy neighbor. How are you doing with that?

Murder and suicide are not unpardonable sins. The only unforgivable sins are rejecting Christ (Mark 16:16) and blaspheming the Holy Spirit.

Suicide is only a sin if you consider insanity a sin. Nobody in their right mind is capable of harming themselves. It takes mental sickness to reach that point of despair. Those that think it's a "cowards way out", have fortunately never had to battle with mental illness because those that have know how lucky they are to have each day when their sickness almost took them and I wish them continued health but more limited ignorance on the topic.

1 Cor. 6:19-20 does not imply anything about suicide - it is an exhortation for believers in Corinth to keep themselves sexually pure. Corinth was home to the temple of Aphrodite - I've read that there were as many as 1000 prostitutes employed as 'priestesses'.

Taken alone, I can see where 'suicide is a one-way ticket to hell' sin can be implied in 1 Cor 3:16-17. However, looking at the verses in context reveals that Paul was speaking against divisions in the church.

You know the Bible well enough to say that the issue of suicide is not directly tackled anywhere. So you also ought to know Mark 3:28-29... "I tell you the truth, all the sins and blasphemies of men will be forgiven them. But whoever blasphemes against the Holy Spirit will never be forgiven; he is guilty of an eternal sin."

Now, to get the topic back on track, I'll simply repost what I wrote over on the CU thread: When I heard the initial news report on the radio, my gut reaction was mild sadness. I'm not an O's fan, so never got to appreciate him the way others have. When I heard the followup news that it was suicide, my heart just kinda hurt. I can't think of a more tragic way of dying. Some (very unfortunately) call it cowardice, but my feeling is that anyone who makes that choice has got to be under tremendous emotional and/or physical pain. It's awful to think that MF was so distraught over his circumstances that he felt taking his life was his only move. It's a decision that can't be taken back, and it so damn tragic. Bright and funny guy, beloved by his fans and listeners - and inside he's a mess. Hurts to think about it.

That is all the Bible has become is this over interpreted book of nothing. There are people who think everything is a sin because it is implied in the Bible. Those people drive me crazy. The new Bible if you put everything that was thought to be sin in a solid direct words it would be 15ft high and 30 foot wide. There are these people just sitting around saying I think this means this hahaah that just happened the other day so lets make it sound like god was against it.
