I'd rather Francona go to the Cardinals if the job doesn't go to Oquendo, rather than him going to the Cubs.

But I think I might want Madden over both of those options.

Madden isn't going to leave the Rays.

I'm not saying he will, but I've learned to never say never.

He does love St. Louis. I've seen crazier things happen.

And I don't know why Cubs fans want an inexperienced manager like Sandberg at the helm instead of a proven guy. They just show over and over they really don't want to win. Because they're not going to win anytime soon with an unproven manager. With Ryno, all you have is a familiar Cubs name.

I say that, yet I also want Oquendo to be given the chance to manage the Cardinals. Oquendo's stuck around in the organization long enough biding his time in hopes that this day will come, and I hope he's given the opportunity. But I won't be upset if they give the job to Francona or some other proven manager.

Sandberg doesn't have MLB coaching experience, so he isn't going to be the guy. I don't think Maddon is going to leave Tampa. It seems like Francona could use a year or two away but maybe I'm wrong there. I think Dave Martinez, Maddon's chief lieutenant in Tampa, might make some sense, with Ryno getting a job as a bench coach.

I dont see Sandberg taking a job as a bench coach.

He is essentially one step away from managing a MLB team. I say he gets the job managing the Cubs.

Remember when Allan Trammell was the manager of the Tigers? He had no MLB managing experience either and he still got the job. I think Ryne gets the job as well.

And the team proceeded to win 39% of their games... Would Cub fans tolerate 3 seasons of ineptitude like they did in Detroit?

Do you think this Cubs team is as bad as the teams Trammell had to work with? I mean come on, they were down right some of the worst MLB teams ever assembled. Look at 2003, 43-119.

Sandberg gets hired, no doubt.
Ricketts is a Cubs Fan and no way he turns down Ryno twice.

Theo's stated requirements for managerial candidates automatically eliminates Sandberg as he has no Major League exp.

Sam, the Cardinals have asked for permission to talk to Sandberg...

Let's say Theo went back on his statement and hired Ryno. If he had the same record next season as Quade, would Cub fans consider this a success?

Sandberg would tarnish his great reputation if he took the Cubs job because that is a no win situation at this point. Its going to take 2-3 years AT BEST to rebuild this team and the fans will have to be tolerant of the rebuilding process. Sandberg, right now is the golden boy in terms of his Cubs reputation but a few years as a manager of a very bad team will remove all of that. Ijust dont see him coming to the Cubs as a manager....a bench coach for some additional grooming as a manager maybe...but just not as a manager.

I have too much respect for the man to see him take that job and get run out of town like we all know any Cub manager eventually will be.
