The hottest MLB players over the last seven days:

1. Hanley Ramirez -- 10 hits 7R 3HR 13RBI 2SB .435 -- Hanley's two grand slams and 13 RBI's (all during a four game span) cemented him atop the list. His .429 batting average with runners in scoring position leads the majors.

2. Albert Pujols -- 9 hits 5R 3HR 12RBI .360 -- Its safe to reserve a spot for Pujols on this list week in and week out, but Monday he outdid himself going deep twice and driving in six runs. Pujols failed to record a hit in only one game this week; a game where he went 0-2 with two walks.

3. Justin Upton -- 10 hits 7R 2HR 6RBI .435 -- Upon is carrying an eight-game hitting streak into today and his .993 OPS is third highest in the majors. Get used to this All-Star caliber production.

4. Troy Tulowitzki -- 9 hits 8R 3HR 5RBI .474 -- A two home run show on Tuesday helped put Tulo on the Sheet. His 12 home runs are the most among short stops and he's already topped his home run total from last season. Tulowitzki looks like he's regaining his 2007 form where he hit 24 homers and drove in 99 runs.

5. Miguel Cabrera -- 11 hits 7R 3HR 5RBI .458 -- His production reminds me a lot of Pujols' to the point where he often gets overlooked. Cabrera's .335 average is second in the AL to Ichiro.

6. Chris Carpenter -- 14.2IP 1W 11K 2.45ERA 0.61WHIP -- Carpenter's single and a walk against Johan Santana landed him on the list. That, and his sub-2.00 ERA on the season plus the fact that he's returned from injury looking sharper than ever.

7. Fernando Nieve -- 12IP 2W 9K 0.75ERA 1.08WHIP -- The Mets looked to Nieve to fill the rotation gap after loosing Oliver Perez and John Maine; the club can't be disappointed in his effort. His totals for the week came against good hitting teams (Tampa Bay and St. Louis) but he only managed six innings in each start, needing over 100 pitches in each start.

8. Tim Lincecum -- 9IP 1H 12K 1.00ERA 1.00WHIP -- Lincecum held the A's to a solo home run, striking out 12 and walking two in a complete game. In 105IP, Timmy has recorded 124 outs via the strike out.

9. Cody Ross -- 11 hits 4R 3HR 6RBI .478 -- Ross is a hot/cold type player, but he's right in the middle of the Marlins offense. He has 13 homers already and should easily surpass his 2008 total of 22.

10. Josh Beckett -- 9IP 1W 7K 0.00ERA 0.56WHIP -- Beckett allowed just five hits in his first complete game shutout since joining the Bo Sox. It only took him 94 pitches to go the distance.

Worth Mentioning:
Derrek Lee had put together a 21-game hitting streak before going 0-4 yesterday. Ricky Nolasco looks to have rebounded after being sent down to the minors to work out...whatever was causing his 9.+ ERA. In his last start against the Orioles, his two runs allowed were unearned. I don't know how this works, but Andy Sonnanstine posted 12K's in 11.1IP but also allowed eight earned runs in two starts this week. The Mariners are bad: Ichiro went 15-27 (the most hits this week) but only scored five runs. He's the first major leaguer to 100 hits despite sitting out eight games to start the season. It must be getting warmer at US Cellular: Paul Konerko went yard four times.

You forgot to mention:

Willie Harris (Nationals), Jeter, & Berkman should all be mentioned ahead of D.Lee.

As pitcher's go, you should put Brian Wilson (Giants closer) & H.Kuroda (as well as Beckett) BEFORE Lincecum on the list as they've shown better production in this time period. Otherwise it's a solid list! ;) :D

No Cutch?

Andrew McCutchen was spectacular this week--a game winning hit, 3 triples, 9 runs batted in; all amid a 13 game hitting streak. He has been an incredible spark for the Pirates and I don't think the success he's had after being called up is hyped enough. That said, however, I'd like to see more SB's (and more walks/less K's) from this speed player before he cracks the top 10.

Harris has undeniably put together a great week, but his 0-5 performance yesterday didn't help him out. Jeter stole four bases and picked up the nine hits, sure, but he didn't drive in a single runner. Puma would wind up in the top 20 somewhere, but he didn't start doing damage until his 3-4 2HR performance yesterday,

A reliever will have to do a lot to make the list, but as far as closers are concerned, Wilson is at the top this week. Kuroda was brilliant, you're absolutely right (1W 8.2IP 9K), but guys with solid multiple starts and complete games get more credit in my eyes.

No one would argue that line isn't impressive, but this is the top performers for the week. I know he starts for a non-existent offense, but if you have to at least beat the DBacks.

I might be mistaken but didn't you write in your initial post that this list was for: "The hottest MLB players over the last seven days"??? If so, it really shouldn't matter what position they play (I took all of the stat's from the last week off of Yahoo Fantasy Sport's, in which they rank in order of player's over the past week (or month, etc depending upon what you choose) & the player's which I wrote down HAVE had statistical output's better than that of the player's in which you wrote (I wasn't just writing those guy's down because I thought they were hot list "worthy", I wrote them down because they were "The hottest MLB players over the last seven days". I apologize if this list was created somewhat like BA's list (with the expectation that the player will continue thier hot streak beyond that of this past week, or that the player has been contributing for quite sometime now- in which they are given more value than a player whom just performed above thier mean's over the past week & produced a really nice weekly stat line), as I thought a list looking at the "hottest player's of a given time period" would actually include the player's who were the "hottest over that given time period"... :D

Wilson and 5 other pitchers recorded three saves this week--Fernando Rodney, Jose Valverde, Francisco Rodriguez, Jenks, and Aardsma. The only thing that sets Wilson apart is the 0.00WHIP, which is nice, but not close to top 10 material. Aardsma, by the way: 3IP 3SV 7K 0.00ERA 0.67WHIP. Wilson had 4.1IP and only 4K's. Like I said; a reliever will really have to work hard to get my attention away from 10+ RBI's, shutouts, or double-digit K's.

Anyway, it's all my opinion and the "worth mentioning" section is just a few notes on stats I find interesting; it isn't a list of top 10 players on the bubble or anything.

Oh okay I can understand the list if it is an opinion piece, I had thought that you were making a ranking list of the hottest overall player's for the past week (which Brian Wilson, whether a reliever/closer or not, is one of the hottest player's with the following stat's:
4.1ip 3Saves 4K's 0.00ERA 0.00WHIP)... :D
