I agree with all but Papelbon.
ya i originally thought that, but looking at the numbers, i could see him barely cracking the top 9, but yes still questionable.

1.84 career ERA
38 saves/year average
10.4 K/9
.98 WHIP
and 2 WS rings

Who would you put over him?

(Not saying he should be #1, but should be on the list...moreso towards the end though)

Is not that Papelbon isn't a great closer. Is the idea of the decade. I think U really have to play 5 full season to be consider fairly.

I agree, but I think the WS rings helped a bit...

So what other closer in the decade played 5 full seasons and has better stats or equal stats to Papelbon? You come up with an answer and I will agree with the people who think Papelbon should not be on the list.

Agreed. In their prime, after Mo and Billy Wagner, I'd take Gagne over any of the others.

Gagne higher up personally. Most saves without blowing one? Pretty good..

Francisco Cordero?

He has the longevity and here are his stats in his 11 seasons:

250 Career Saves
3.18 career ERA
28 saves/year average
9.3 K/9
1.35 WHIP

I am not saying Papelbon should not be on the list, I am just saying maybe Cordero could be on if he wasn't.

I think I would rank Nathan ahead of Hoffman, but Nathan suffers because he only started closing in 2004 (although he appeared in relief in 78 games in 2003, with no saves).

Nathan's numbers as a closer from 2004-2009:
6 seasons, 1.87 ERA, 0.934 WHIP, ERA+ of 236, 246 saves (41 per year), 518 Ks in 418 IP

Hoffman's numbers since 2004:
6 seasons, 2.63 ERA, 1.009 WHIP, ERA+ of 150, 239 saves (40 per year), 295 Ks, in 332 IP

Hoffman had another 124 saves in 2000-2002 (he didn't record a save in 2003 due to injury), which I am sure is the biggest reason he is ahead of Nathan on this list.

Not a bad list. Izzy and Wagner are too high though.

Gagne should not even be on this list. He only had a couple great seasons, and they were enhanced by steroids. I think that Francisco Cordero should be in his place.

That is an ignorant comment. Yeah because one of the effects of steriods is it makes you pitch unhittable balls? Steriods is such a small advantage, and fans make such a HUGE deal about it! Really gets old.

lol Why would they take steroids if it doesn't make them better. Why is it illegal and banned by MLB if it doesn't make them better. Why do players risk their lives and hearts if steroids don't make them better. You are so oblivious, it's not worth the argument.
