Received the last part of my birthday present to myself. I purchased the '98 crusade green to go with the red I grabbed a few weeks ago. I'm not a fan of the refractor line at all. I purchased it sight unseen from the guy I got the red from. I'll probably switch it out for a copy without the refractor line:

Been wanting a copy of this card since '98. Ultra Platinum Medallion RC 28/66

AWESOME mail Chris!!! That sucks that the crusade has the refractor line in it. How often do those cards hit ebay?

The platinum is SEXY!!!! I wonder why they #'d them to 66? Maybe in honor of the greatest hockey player ever, Mario Lemieux?

Nice!

The Crusade is great but I like the Platinum Medallion more. As of now I only have one Manning RC (Omega?) but would like to pick up something else low-end.

The green crusade appears with a decent amount of frequency. Of course the purple is more difficult to find with a production of 100. The red is impossible at a run of 25. I had wanted a red crusade for years and was more than upset when I missed a red at auction. What compounds all of this is that the crusades rarely appear in auction. They are almost always in the form of a BIN/BO. Either way I swapped messages with the guy I got the cards from and expressed my disappointment that he did not mention the refractor line. He offered either a full refund or credit on another high end Manning. He has a purple BGS 9.5 but I will probably pass. With a card of that nature the grade does not mean as much to me as the scarcity.

I love the platinum. I have always loved the look of that card and had it on my short list of wanted cards. I'm sure I'll grab a BGS 9 of the base as well as a BGS 9 of the gold to go with it.

Now it's a matter of figuring out what else is on the list of must haves. I would like a '98 Topps autograph and another Chrome RC refractor. Once upon a time I had the opportunity to pick up the Donruss Pen Pals quad Manning/Favre/Marino/Elway auto. I wonder if I will ever see that card offered again.

I wish, no I just really think its undervalued compared to the contenders. I also like the Gold Topps Auto, I know some folks have found their bronzes where actually golds and PSA just started marking them on the labels a couple of years ago.

I need to learn up on the Bowman's Best. I know there are at least a pair of them. As far as the Topps autograph I agree. A bronze or gold is on the wish list. I think my primary goal is to finish the crusade set if/when I can find a purple without a wild BIN.

I can agree with that. My only deal with the ones out there is that both copies available are BGS 9.5. This is just my opinion but I have always held to a collecting philosophy where you ask where the value in something is at. The value is in the crusades due to the production and not so much the grade IMHO. I'm not spending $1K or even $600 on a '98 Manning /100 because it's BGS 9.5. I could live with a raw copy as long as it's free from the refractor line like the one above.
