You'll never convince some people.ronfromfresno said:No competition, return to the '70's for collectors, no need to improve for Topps. Remember the competition spurred the inserts of the '90's, the Bowman line and all of the Game Used and Auto'ed cards we covet today.

My biggest hope is that UD is allowed to continue in the unlicensed realm, and because of that, DLPanini jumps back in as well.ronfromfresno said:I agree, but it's the basis of economics, eventually we all will complian and hopefully the competition will return. With a monopoly, dealers will have less variety to sell, fewer individuals will seek out the un-innovative cards, and shops will possibly close. This site was created in a sense due to the same pricinple, we all craved variety compared to Beckett's near monopoly of baseball card thought. We jumped ship because we could, now when it comes to modern collecting, there are no new baseball ships to jump to.chashawk said:You'll never convince some people.ronfromfresno said:No competition, return to the '70's for collectors, no need to improve for Topps. Not neccessarily talking about change. Just talking about Topps getting lazy because they have the exclusive locked up.uniquebaseballcards said:Bowman was around in the 1940s. Topps lost its monopoly in 1981...inserts and parallels didn't start until a *decade* later...prospecting several years after that...meaningful levels of GU and autos another few years. There's no reason to think any of this was solely the result of competition, its not like anybody wouldn't have thought to have athlete-signed cards for competition. Nothing new has happened for the past decade anyway.
Why would any company want to loose customers due to lack of innovation? Besides, how much does anyone need baseball cards to further change in order to be happy and fulfilled.

How is the collegiate logo present on the backs of the 09 EEE cards? I'll admit I'm not in the loop in these matters.
