The Lorain Morning Journal has retracted a story after erroneously
reporting that Legendary Cleveland Indians pitcher Bob Feller died.
Indian legend Bob Feller has NOT died. An oops by The Lorain Morning
Journal that many media outlets p/u. My apologies from our Network.

I'm not seeing a source for any of this, and none of the major outlets are reporting it yet. He was admitted to hospice a couple of days ago, and unfortunately in addition to leukemia, he was battling pneumonia and thrush.

He and Kerry Wood were the only pitchers to strike out their age (Wood 20, Feller 17), and he is the only Navy CPO in the HOF.



Edit - I don't buy it yet. I think Jim Ingraham of The Morning Journal (serving all of Northern Ohio) may have jumped the gun, but I could be wrong. He had a four page story ready to go and published before cnn, espn, or mlb had the news on their websites. We shall see, but if I've learned anything from Dan Patrick, you always confirm with 2 sources before you report news.

My understanding is he passed yesterday (Wed)

I read it on net54 over an hour ago and it was still Wednesday for me here in the Pacific

When I worked for Gannett, it was amazing looking at all of the 1A cover stories for USA Today celebrating the lives of the just deceased...long before they died or were on the radar.

That said, every outlet interested already has their Bob Feller memorial piece written...all but the time and date.

Sadly it will take his death for most in this hobby to truly understand how good of a player he was, instead of just being known as "Oh, great...a Bob Feller autograph."

I am glad he is still alive although unfortunately it probrobly won't be to much longer.Feller was such a blast to talk to.I had to get an autograph from him anytime he was signing near me.

Very well said and it is very unfortunate. Not only was Bob Feller a Great player he was a great person as I have met him on more than one occasion.

Meeting Feller was meeting anyone else, he was so down to earth.
