@WizardofOz1982

I post there (facebook) to help people and sometimes to debate, but i don't transact there. I guess that is more my point. I also understand that everyone on here probably does all sorts of online transacting (COMC, Ebay, etc.). Since we are kind of anonymous on these sites, with just user names (unless you have dealt with anyone 1 on 1 and have their name/address), it's hard to know who is who on any of the sites except Facebook, where your name is out there for all to see. I was being very broad in my comments for sure, as i know not everyone falls into that category.

It was pretty sad though and I see more and more people bragging about slimy crap or others defending people for doing it. I saw a perfect meme that describes it. It went something like:

Children who are not taught right from wrong and corrected when acting wrong, become adults who don't think anything they do is wrong! It was literally these guys, thinking nothing they were doing was wrong. At a minimum, it is unethical, but to them it is an advantage that should be used for personal gain (others be damned) or it was someone else's fault for them being able to CHEAT the system!

I would probably buy that Garvey for $25, I don't think i have it. Have not seen it though, so probably a group I am not in. i am only in 3-4 card groups. What was the name of the group the Gavrye came from?
It's not too hard to figure out who people are in Facebook card groups based on their collections. I'm in groups with George Calfas, chippercards, jszczech, and others from this board and of course mouschi (Tanner Jones) is everywhere.

It is sad to see more and more people condoning things like pack weighing and the like though.

I'll try to locate the seller again. I don't see it any of my normal groups or my previously viewed posts. He's had it for a while and been reposting it with a lowered price pretty regularly. Think he started at $75 or 80.

I have that LoDuca, but still need the blue /25 if you come across that one. I was actually disappointed that Loduca was a subject. He has a TON of certified autographs to choose from already. What I like best about Archives/Fan Favorites is getting to see guys we hardly ever see.

Today's single Dodger item, Otis Nixon TTM/IP. He didn't have a lot of Dodger cards. I think his only certified auto is from 1996 Signature and was apparently never issued, but a bunch apparently found their way into someone's hands via a storage find. Someone must has a horde of them now and one guy (maybe the one who found them???) is trying to get $999 for one on ebay now. Scarce doesn't always equal stupid high prices. I don't hold it against anyone to try to maintain a price for a scarce item, but the demand has to be tiny for a guy like Nixon. How long do you hold something like that to make a few $100 per sale? A little greedy if you ask me, but whatever...

I feel the same way about Eric Chavez in this year's set. He had a million certified autos during his playing career. Unfortunately for Archives when you get past 2000 the vast majority of memorable players have a ton of autographs already.

I don't think i have it though. What are you asking for it? I know some of the lower #'d bowmans still sell OK, but as far as i am concerned, commons are commons. I'll pick up cheap low print runs, but won't pay a premium for them.

Today brings the base baker. Baker Arch Base.png

Also got this guy in, which I actually mentioned in a different thread. The key for me is Don Hoak. Probably indicative of the ending price (despite the listing omission) because he is right on the top edge of the piece.

Pee Wee Reese, Erv Palica, Billy Herman and the rest are not bad additions as well. Hoak.jpg

A pretty good day, since things are taking forever to arrive again and are bunching up.

Leading off with another Zach McKinstry. I only bought this because Heritage Real one is always a nice card to have. maybe the guy will heat up again, not that it matters. i am not moving the cards. s-l1600-1.jpg

Next is a team issued pc of frank Robinson. His brief time with LA lead to only a handful of collectibles. I like to find signed items. I have seen that signature with flair bvefore and almost certain I have seen it certified. It always makes me a little nervous, but it might be a period signature too. Seems when I see them, they are on Dodger stuff mostly. F Robby.png

A couple former/futures. Ryu is one that i just love the card set/design. The Brooklyn & Montgomery 582 Topps auto cards are all pretty cool. This would have been a great card for a Dodger photo, but I'll take a BJ any day (sorry, couldn't resist). Ryu.jpg

Then there is this Archives Al Oliver /14. I don't think I had this one. If I did, I don't mind a dupe. Oliver 14.jpg

Going to sign off with one that I did not need and really shouldn't be buying dupes in this price range, but I just love the 61 Heritage/Original design and they look like they were made to be signed! The image of his is a little weird, but that is OK. It doesn't hurt that this guy is a HOF and his Dodger cards are few. 15 copies is another big perk. I remember when these first went live and I saw one and realized they were /15. I had to have 1, but was so afraid that I'd be priced out after missing 2-3 in a row. I finally nabbed one and then it got easier. This is now my 4th copy of this card. Thome 15.jpg

Roberts silver /99 completes the run except for the gold 1/1, which I have not seen come available. Unlike past years, this is the 1st 4 color run I have completed and may be the only one at the rate I am going. Roberts Silver.jpg

Combining 2 of my favorites, Dodger player autographs and 1978 Topps, comes an Archives Bill North /38. The only thing better would have been if North was shown as a Dodger. He was a speedy outfielder who had his best years with Oakland at the tail end of their WS run in the early-mid 1970s. He lead the league in stolen bases twice, but oddly enough also lead the league in caught stealing 4 times (including the 2 years he lead the league in SBs)! The Dodgers traded Glenn Burke to the A's straight up for North on May 17, 1978. North would finish the year in LA (and get his one and only Dodger card in 1979 Topps). He signed as a free agent with the Giants in 1979 and played 3 more seasons before calling it a career.

Burke on the other hand finished out 1978 with the A's and played a small part of 1979 and he was done. He is probably more well know to most for being the first athlete to publicly acknowledge his sexual orientation as a gay man in 1982, although apparently he did not try to hide it during his playing days and presumably some or all of his teammates were aware. After his baseball career, he had substance abuse issues and apparently eventually became homeless and destitute by the time he died of AIDS in 1995. He is also generally credited with inventing the High 5 with teammate Dusty Baker. Now his autographed 1978 Topps card (Dodgers) is quite a find and will be very expensive if you do find one. I have seen a number of them out there, as well as some 79 Topps (A's), so they are not impossible.

I have been impatiently waiting for this one. First the seller sat on it, then so did the USPS! Won it on 12/22, didn't ship until 12/28, arrived today. Very nervous about it, because 2 reasons. 1). It's nearly irreplaceable & 1). I already lost another /5 auto (Manny Trillo) from the same set when some genius seller sent it to the wrong buyer and apparently that ******* buyer felt he deserved to keep it.

Pedro Guerrero Timeless Teams auto /5! This is such a cool set and the gold parallels (signed and unsigned) are spectacular, yet simple. They are really nice in the subset that is mostly foil on the base card, so nearly the entire card face is gold.

Following behind Pedro, Wimpy is a let down! I could not remember if I had a certified Paciorek, so I grabbed a cheapie just in case. I can even technically call this a Dodger card, as it features the team as Albuquerque, a farm club for the Dodgers when Paciorek was coming up. Yet, they had to ruin it by using a White Sox photo! I hold no ill will toward the pale hose, but just about any other team photo would have been better.Paciorek.png
