Willie Davis Spokane Indians Darigold (no tab). I think this is 1960, but might be 1959. Very early Davis issue, maybe the best player in the set.

Jang, another of the new Bowman prospect cards I tried to nab cheaply, just in case. I may give this type of chase up at some point. Many of these guys never even make the team.

Forgot this ticket stub. i'd prefer the year was visible, but easy enough to verify with the schedules.

This is the only game during his career that Garvey played second base at the MLB level. Not the typical "event" stub most people chase, but I went through and made a list of any weird event and have not been overly successful finding them, but then again I am not really looking very hard either. Buying stubs has gotten much harder because everyone knows what happened in the games. Used to be you could find great milestones that people had no clue happened. Not so much any more. This one was advertised as his only game at 3B, close but that isn't true. Probably just a typo by the seller.

A small complaint that will probably be seen by very few. I am not trying to spread the word per se, but don't mind sharing the story either.

"Autograph Den" on ebay is a high volume seller of signed cards., photos, etc I have won a fair number of items from them over the course of at least a year or more and perhaps even several years now. Their best feature was having low opening bids (often a penny a card) and combined shipping, although there is no cap. $0.25 per card after the first one, so if you win 101 cards, you pay $25 shipping for the last 100.

Apparently though, expecting them to get your orders straight and shipping the correct cards is an inconvenience to them. Whoever runs the messages for that account is a smart ass. I was threatened a couple times that I would be blocked because of my "incessant complaining". My complaints you ask? Getting the correct cards shipped to me AND having ALL of the cards I paid for included with my order. Numerous times cards were missing or wrong. This was almost a problem with every single order I made with them. Not once did they actually fix an order problem, rather they resorting to refunds. They didn't have time to sort out such trivial things like getting the card I bought back when they sent it to the wrong buyer. Of course, these were cheap cards to be transparent, mostly a buck or less. Still, the attitude that we'll F up your order and threaten to block you when you complain about it is ridiculous!

If anyone knows who the owner is of this ebay shop is, I'd love to know. I would love to NOT do business with them outside of ebay by mistake. They didn't respond to that question when I asked and told them to block me after they screwed up my "final" order.

However turns out even despite my bold, pushy reply, they didn't block me even after a direct request that they do so and I ended up seeing one last card I wanted. Shame on me for continuing to give them my money, but it's one card and this will be it. I will no longer spend hours searching their listings of 1000s of signed cards. I won't win 100s of cards at a time anymore or bid up 100s more other items that I don't win but help them make more money through higher prices realized. I am admittedly a small fry customer, but through volume and longevity I have probably spend at least 4 figures with them. Their non-existent customer service has lost them a customer and according to them, apparently they could give a $hit about it anyways.

Thanks for indulging me if you made it this far and if I helped drive just one more customer from buying cards from them on ebay, I feel satisfied!

Here is the last card I got from these clowns.

Yikes! I've only bought less than a handful of cards from them (unsigned minor league ones that I needed) but never more than one at a time. "Customer service" like that should not exist in any industry!

Slow Tuesday after a massive Monday mail day.

Alvarez was a Dodger for only a brief second in 2022 and gave them a .160 effort in 14 games, but I like this action minor league card that reminds me of a 86 Topps card a little.

No mail today for Juneteenth, but didn't have time to post these yesterday.

Garvey DK 25.png
This is the /25 version.

Pretty sure this is one of my still 3 outstanding Panini DK redemption cards from 2020! How is it that they are out there for sale, yet Panini can't redeem my cards? BS!! They probably gave them away as prizes to other people who had unredeemed cards. I need to demand an Ohtani auto to properly compensate myself for this crap. I HATE REDEMPTIONS!

I was not going to chase these at all and this was actually my first and only "Decision 2024" card, because I won it for around $3 and was an add-on to an existing order, exactly where the price should be for this kind of thing. It's /25. A memory of his failed attempt at public office. Who knows, he may try again in the future.

This is pretty cool. A program with some newspaper clippings and stub, commemorating Garvey's 1000th consecutive game. Too bad they didn't score the game in the program. I already had the stub for my milestone collection, but the whole package was too good to pass up, plus I have saved newspaper clippings since I was a kid.

Then it was an Ethier kind of day. The heritage /25 and the Archives /19. He seems to have a decent following. I didn't get any real bargains, but really liked both and ended up on top for each auction.

I have wanted one of these since I saw one. It's /99, so not scarce. Featured Alston, Furillo and Stanky. Was just not willing to pay a ton, as the GU phenomenon is over for me.

Autographed wire photo with what looks like a nice vintage signature

Garv au.png

Finally, that new weird thing that makes me excited that almost everyone else looks at and rolls their eyes. Seller was selling a 1977 photo Album, which is cool in itself. It's several pages of perforated "cards" issued of the players with stats and bios on back. They are roughly 4 1/4" x 5 1/2" in size when separated. However, the flyer was what I really wanted, since i have a handful of the photo albums already. This is a flyer for a store appearance he made. I got super exited to think this was for THE appearance he made in 1980 that I went to, but missed out. However, given that was May and we went down for summer vacation, I was probably still in school and this was just a different appearance. Still, very cool item I have never seen.

There were actually two flyers included when the item arrived, but one had pencil on it as someone tried to trace and shade the image. I will probably not be able to erase it without damage and it's hard to tell at first glance, so I will probably just leave it as is.One is unaltered though and another sweet oddball for the Garvey collection.

I have tried to win a set of Major League cards for a while, but clearly enough people are willing to spend big bucks and I am not. Apparently they were given out on a limited promotional basis. There seems to be plenty of sets, but the demand keeps the prices high. I love oddball stuff, but what really drew me to the set, besides the design, is that there is a card of Steve Yeager.

I finally grabbed the single Yeager, so I will probably no longer be looking for sets. Should I happen upon a full set at a great price, I may still buy one, but I doubt that will happen. Always had in my mind these were bigger, like the Bull Durham promotional set that are closer to 5x7. These are more around 3x4.

Nothing too exciting to wrap up June here. The Gonzalez is /5, but not exactly a great looking card either. Bradley is /75. I got the Lodoca for $3 plus s/h. He had a decent career, seems a little too cheap, but I'll take it. Have several already, but why not at that price? Banda continues to be a cheap add, so if I see a design I like, I'll oick one up. Would like a Dodger card, but it seems the way the market goes, we get blasted with pre and rookie auto issues and then unless they are stars, the card makers turn their back on the average guys as they progress through their careers.

Lastly, some oversized 1962 Omaha Dodgers cards. I bid on all of them and was a little surprised to have competition, but I only ended up winning 5. Someone seemed to have bid the same amount and these were the ones that I bid higher than that basic bid. All of mine were players who ended up making the MLB team. The cards are rather plain with a facsimile signature. I won Jim Barbieri, Dick Smith, Jack Smith, Gene Snyder and Nick Willhite. All had very brief MLB careers and played at least a few games for the Dodgers. All had at least 1 Topps cards as well with the Dodgers. There were a couple more players who made the big squad that I didn't win, but most of them I lost out on never did. Appears I could have bought the whole set for $50 with free shipping. I didn't quite may that for my 5 cards, but maybe I should have just done that!

It happened again, this time with the /5. This is the first one incoming. How does one forget that they already bought a /5 you ask? I don't have a good answer for that, other than old age and poor organization in the short term.

A rare 1/1 win, one of the BAZILLION Leaf 1/1 cards floating around these days. They just don't get that their are ruining what was once a good thing.
Garvey 1-1 Leaf.png

I finally landed one of these8x10s. Someone designed/put this together, likely for a signing. Not willing to spend the big bucks for a signed version, but unsigned were never available, at least until recently.

I had a heck of a time even finding this guy on BB Reference. I assume he is never going to break into the bigs with the Dodgers, as it looks like he was done as of last year at age 21! Luis Rodriguez is a very common name in minor league baseball history!

This was a cheapie I didn't have already and probably my last of his unless they are practically free.

Do have any Ohtani Dodgers relics or auto in your collection?
I do not. That is one I do not expect to ever land. However, I thought the same of Betts and his glut of unlicensed Leaf autos that started flooding the market about a year ago gave me a chance. I don't see this happening with Ohtani, but stranger things have happened. So, I am saying there is still a chance...
