My first estate lot purchase: Scans-a-palooza!

Some of you may have seen my thread about the 1953 World Series signed program I recently picked up. That came from a guy who bought a huge lot (135 large boxes!) from an estate auction in May. Since the first deal went so well, he kept me in the loop on what other vintage baseball items he found. This may be just the tip of the iceberg since he said he still has over 100 boxes to go through (not just sports, but art, military items, books, etc...)

Well, after seeing the description and some scans, I had to pull the trigger. It's pretty exciting to make a lump purchase like this off Ebay. No guarantees with the signed items, but I still see a lot of potential with the lot. I'll be pretty busy over the next several weeks, I'd imagine.

Very nice stuff, and a grand seems a pretty good price. The Dean ball alone would bring in quite bit if you decide to flip.

For you autograph gurus, does the Dean ball look legit? How rampant are forgeries/clubhouse versions?

Believe it or not, that was a last minute "throw in" right before we closed the deal.

The MacArthur signed '51 program is an interesting piece as well. I only recently learned that he was almost considered for MLB commissioner after Happy Chandler (Ford Frick ultimately got the job).

I've looked at Dizzy autos wanting to pick one up for a while. I only look at authenticated versions. I always look at the angle and consistency of the D's and the slant of the "zzy". They tend to slant at a greater angle than the rest of the sig.

Looks good to me, but my opinion and $1.50 might buy you a Coke.
