Check all pawn shops in a 60 mile radius. That would be the easiest place to drop off the loot. It's quick money and they will take anything. The good part for you, pawn shops are forced to give back stolen property.
" The good part for you, pawn shops are forced to give back stolen property '
uh.... no they are not.
Yes they are. Pawn shops cannot sell stolen items, it's called fencing. If a item is found to be stolen it is confiscated by the local police and returned to the rightful owner. This is why pawn shops take a lot of steps in trying to determine if something is stolen before buying or giving a loan. They lose out on any money paid for stolen items as well as the item.
Most police depts check pawn shops on a regular basis for stolen property. So check with the officer if that's the case. Also, in some states pawn shops are required to hold all merchandise for 30 days before it can be sold, which officers have access to.

Do you not know how to read? They had to give her stuff back. Are you retarded or just always have to go against whatever someone says. They initially told her she had to pay to get it back but by law she doesn't.
You can't just walk into a pawn and say "that's my stolen property now give it back". You must notify police and they will get the items for you. I would bet this isn't exclusive to only pawn shop either. If you notice your item on ebay, at a dealer, some kid selling them out of his car, etc, notify the cops and they can confiscate the merchandise.

Once it is established that it is your stolen property, they have to return it. It could vary locally but here in Vegas the pawn shop loses out whatever they paid for the stolen property.

good luck hive, i would probably die if i came home and
found my stuff lifted. Luckily, or unluckily, my disability
keeps me home 95% of the time, so if someone breaks in
they are going to be sorry. your stuff will turn up, lets just hope
they didnt toss it in a dumpster.

This thread is keeping me up at night.

Good luck man. You'll hear a rousing cheer from across the country if you post that these dickholes were caught.

Every time I see this thread bumped, I'm hoping there's a break in the case. Good luck...

Per this comment, I almost don't want to update the thread :)

Good news is that insurance will most likely cover the cards. I'm loading them into Beckett and got a 1-month sub. Honestly, if they even pay half of BV, it's going to help.

The rub is that I didn't have a seperate rider for my wife's jewelry, so the claim maxes out at 1500 a piece and 2500 total. Also, let your wives know that if they solder their engagement and wedding bands together, that becomes one piece.

As to the fencing/pawn shop question: the pawn shops that I've talked to say that they will notify police and Pawn America even said they will buy the item and get it returned and then go after the pawnee. Doing that makes them a victim in the crime and helps police, so good news there. Also, every LCS in Dane county knows about it.

Sadly though, unless these are kids or morons, and unless they move the items locally, pawn shops are going to be a dead end other than locally. If the crooks are smart, they will take the stuff to Milwaukee or Janesville/Rockford/Chicago and they'll be gone.

My best hope is the rarer cards. They can either keep them forever,or throw them away; anything else will get them caught.

And let me thank you all again; I think if they are caught, it will be in no small measure to all your efforts and eyes :)

OMG man! Thats terrible... describing him or them as POS isnt doing them justice... He/They will get whats coming to them... Im sorry brother... You should put a list together of specific high-end rare parallels that people can look out for... Id be happy to help out where I could... If that happened to me, Id be out of my bird right now, rounding up folks, ready to go hunting for them... Once again, Im really sorry brother...

Good luck man. I feel your pain. Same thing happened to me in 2007. They stole a bunch of Mattingly stuff #'d /5 and it never surfaced again. I just hope they didn't get nervous about that kind of stuff and just throw it in the trash.

I hope it all makes its way back to you.

Thanks again.

For anyone that didn't read past the first page, I updated the OP with the photobucket page that has mostly everything that was taken.

I'm 85% completed with the Beckett Collection as well, and I think i can post that link as a public page as well, which I will do.

And if anyone wants to forward the Photobucket link to dealers, please feel free. I am looking at the ones here in Southern Wisconsin, but if anyone knows better or knows Northern Il, please spread the word.

Most? Try all

Every purchase and loan receipt are turned over to police. Pawn shops are required by law to record any serial #, custom marking (name engraved on a power tool, etc.) on items that come in. In Texas, all buys are held 21 business days (varies state to state, in Nevada it's 180 days) and loans are held 90 calendar days

My parents own a chain of pawn shops. I know all about the laws. Pawn shops are the WORST place to dump stolen merchandise

Hey Hive, being a fellow Brewer fan and collector, I will keep my eyes out for anything on Ebay and/or local shops. I am thinking if they are stupid enough to break into a house they are stupid enough to sell the stuff on Ebay or Craigslist. This thread has me calling ADT now and possibly installing cameras at my house.

Good Luck and keep us posted.

All you need to do is install cameras I have 2 and I would not pay ADT to monitor my house since they will call the cops
only after no one sets the alarm code in like 2 minutes and by then the cops will be 4 minutes or more behind the perps. I do have a
entry alarm that goes off when you enter, but it is not hooked up to any service. but you still need to shut off, and the people who enter can here it and they will most likely will leave as soon as they enter.

Hive, I'm also sorry to hear about your break-in and loss.
I immediately thought about a thread on here titled show me your card room and a thread on another forum where someone showed a complete PSA graded 1955 Topps set displayed on a wall in there basement. Just wondering how many people are trying to figure out who this guy is any how to break into his home and run off with his cards. It is a scary world and this economy is not helping.

My dream room is my banner, I would have to have Mission Impossible Lasers installed protecting that loot. Too bad it is all in the ocean.
