The family are friends of mine and they dont really collect memorabilia or anything so it didnt mean much to them so i offered them a price so i could get it instead of seeing that amazing piece of History sit in a closet never to be seen. The grandfather passed away i believe, but they said he stole it or mays gave it to him they dont really know its been in the family for a long time. I got a good deal on it and when it hits the market i hope it goes to a collector who will love it cuz its an amazing piece. Im also 16 so this is a really big item for me also living in san francisco!!!!

Just be careful what ever you choose. You seem to be a smart young man, just be aware there may be a few dolts trying to get over on you. In my opinion I would take the 6,000 grand and run if its a nice profit. After authenticating fees and auction house fees it seems it will get in the 6,000 area. But if set on an auction I would get a list of all the good sports auction houses and have someone contact them and see if you can get them to lower their fees if possible.

Now this is a LONG shot but look into photo matching. If you can get an EXACT match that would raise the price drastically but photo matches form that era are extremely tough.

ive looked into it but it sounds nearly impossible, i have a strange feeling this bat in an auction setting would bring some crazzzyyy money (at least to me) because of the use

Thats cool, and I hope you are right. But if I where you I would keep the 6,000 offer open. Let them know you are thinking about it, maybe they may even offer more.

Still waiting to hear back from an expert, but did get the opinion of a vintage bat collector. He believe that this is not a game used model and is a store model bat that someone likely used themselves. He said that the pine tar amount and location is inconsistent with Mays and the bat looks "too standard" to be an individually designed model. He also said that the S2 stamp is often (NOT always) associated with a 2nd style of store model, one would be a "Block Name" model like this one, the other being an S1 which is a "Signature Model."

He wanted me to reiterate that he is not 100% positive, but said that if it were available for him to purchase as a Game Used bat, he wouldnt touch it. Too many inconsistencies to be a likely game used bat. Dont give up hope though! Im hoping to get a response to be a definitive answer for you.

If you dont have one do yourself a favor and go get at least a bat tube from your local card shop if possible and put it in there. Dont take it in and out. I suspect the reason the pine tar is still there is from the lack of handling from being in the back of a closet. I would handle the bat as little as possible from this point forward.

Isn't the word "POWERIZED" one of the quick ways to see if a bat is genuine and not a store bat?

Here is my Edgar GU with the word shown..

Whether it's real or not, I would guess Topps is interested in purchasing it as well.

The circle trademark in the center helps gague the age and type--retal or authentic--too in many cases. This is the marking on a Lloyd Waner (yes, a Lloyd Waner) bat I have.

And the signature. Again, using a facsimile signature instead of block letters can be an indicator, too.
