krowsnest said:The family are friends of mine and they dont really collect memorabilia or anything so it didnt mean much to them so i offered them a price so i could get it instead of seeing that amazing piece of History sit in a closet never to be seen. The grandfather passed away i believe, but they said he stole it or mays gave it to him they dont really know its been in the family for a long time. I got a good deal on it and when it hits the market i hope it goes to a collector who will love it cuz its an amazing piece. Im also 16 so this is a really big item for me also living in san francisco!!!!
Just be careful what ever you choose. You seem to be a smart young man, just be aware there may be a few dolts trying to get over on you. In my opinion I would take the 6,000 grand and run if its a nice profit. After authenticating fees and auction house fees it seems it will get in the 6,000 area. But if set on an auction I would get a list of all the good sports auction houses and have someone contact them and see if you can get them to lower their fees if possible.
Now this is a LONG shot but look into photo matching. If you can get an EXACT match that would raise the price drastically but photo matches form that era are extremely tough.
