Speaking of young, who did the Yanks get for Alfonso Soriano? :?
I wonder how much the "cash" part of that deal was?

Yankees traded Soriano to the Texas Rangers along with minor leaguer Joaquin Arias for Alex Rodriguez and cash amounting to $67 million of the $179 million remaining on Rodriguez's contract
Just to expand a little more, Arod batted.303/.403/.573 with 173 homers, 88 stolen bases, won a pair of Most Valuable Player trophies, and accumulated a 30 WAR during the remainder of the 112M that the Yankees paid on his contract.
Coming off, or not, of three years of admitted steroid use... ;)

Best:
Luis Gonzalez and cash for Karim Garcia
Curt Schilling for Travis Lee, Omar Daal, Nelson Figueroa, and someone else? I think, obviously not that important.
Ian Kennedy for Max Scherzer and Daniel Schlereth
Chris Young and Orlando Hernandez for Javier Vazquez
Daniel Hudson and David Holmberg for Edwin Jackson
Danny Bautista for Andy Fox (Danny was clutch in the playoffs in 2001).

All those worked out great, though a couple helped the other teams as well so they were fair for all involved.

Worst:
Half the team for Richie Sexson
Casey Fossum and Brandon Lyon for Curt Schilling
Chad Qualls and Juan Gutierrez for Jose Valverde
Not a trade, but losing Dan Uggla in the Rule 5 was tough.

TOSS-UP:
Not sure where to put this, as getting Dan Haren is never a bad thing. However, we had to give up Carlos Gonzalez and Brett Anderson. Seeing as Haren didn't take us to the playoffs like suspected, I'd say this wasn't a great move. I love our team, but it'd be nice to have CarGo in left.

Ill do the Jays since they haven't been done yet and living in Canada ive always had a soft spot for the Jays. I am far from a Jays expert though, so i may have missed some best/worst trades, just going from memory.

BEST- Roberto Alomar and Joe Carter From the Padres to the Jays for Tony Fernandez and Fred McGriff.

Devon White, Willie Fraser and Marcus Moore to the Toronto Blue Jays for Junior Félix and Luis Sojo.

Jose Bautista to the Jays from Pirates for Robinzon Diaz

Worst- Roy Halladay was traded to the Philadelphia Phillies for Kyle Drabek, Travis D'Arnaud, and Michael Taylor (although there is still some hope for this trade)

John Olerud to the Mets for Robert Person

David Cone traded from Toronto to the New York Yankees for Marty Janzen, Jason Jarvis and Mike Gordon

I've got a couple.

Jermaine Dye in a three-team deal that netted the Royals Neifi Perez. Dye went on to win a ring elsewhere.
Johnny Damon in a three-team deal that got them Angel Berroa, A.J. Hinch, and Roberto Hernandez. Damon won with Boston.
Carlos Beltran in another three-team job for Mark Teahen, John Buck and Mike Wood. Beltran wo..... You get the idea.

How about Jose Bautista to the Mets for Huber? I can go on....

Ivan Dejesus to the Phillies for Larry Bowa...oh yeah, and some minor leaguer thrown in named Ryne Sandberg...

That's the worse to me, i was an Expos fan. Even at the time, Langston came, and everyone knew that Johnson would be a great pitcher...oh well.

Best:
Pedro Martinez from the Dodgers for Delino DeShields

but 4 years later it turns out bad: Martinez traded to the Sox for Tony Armas and Carl Pavano.

Braves since 1982 when I moved to Atlanta . ..

Worst:

Teixeira for Andrus, Feliz, Harrison, Saltalamacchia, and Beau Jones
Teixeira fo Kotchman and Marek
Alex Gonzalez for Yunel Escobar
Denny Neagle for Jason Schmidt
Lofton and Alan Embree for Justice and Grissom
Michael Tucker & Keith Lockhart for Jermaine Dye
Len Barker for Brett Butler, Brook Jacoby, and Rick Behenna
Jeff Parrett and some Philly scrap for Dale Murphy and Tommy Greene

Not that Murph was worth much at that point but a year or so before they turned down (supposedly) Lenny Dykstra, Howard Johnson, and Rick Aguilera. Rumor was the Braves were holding out for David West instead of Aguilera. Whoops.

Best:

Smoltz for Doyle Alexander
Jurrjens and Gorkys Hernandez for Renteria
McGriff for Melvin Nieves, Vince Moore, and Donnie Elliot
Hudson for Charles Thomas, Dan Meyer, and Juan Cruz

I was expecting to see this trade on here. It's nice to see that it is under someone's best.

Smoltz for Doyle Alexander

However, this was the best for both teams. Alexander went 9-0 after the trade and helped put the Tigers in the ALCS. He also was 4th in voting for CY Young and 13th for MVP that year. His WHIP was 1.008 during that time. He also went 14-11 the next year and was in the All-Star game. He also went 6-18 the next year and then was out of baseball. All in all, I think it was wise for both teams, Smoltz was still a year away at the time of that trade and it was a crap shoot at that point (he was in A ball the year before and had a 7-8 3.56 era record the year before). At the time of the trade, John was 4-10 with a 5.68 era (1.631 WHIP), so there was no indication that he would turn into the player he became. Braves just got lucky in that trade.

Best:
Joe Carter for Sandy Alomar Jr. and Carlos Baerga
Eddie Taubense for Kenny Lofton
Felix Fermin and Reggie Jefferson for Omar Vizquel
Bartolo Colon for Sizemore Lee and Phillips
Mark DeRosa for Chris Perez
Eduardo Perez for Asdrubal Cabrera
Ben Broussard for Shin Soo Choo

Worst:
Rocky Colavito for Harvey Kuenn.
Dennis Eckersley for Ted Cox, Bo Diaz, Mike Paxton and Rick Wise.
Gaylord Perry for Jim Bibby, Jackie Brown, Rick Waits
Brian Giles For Ricardo Rincon
Roberto Alomar for Matt Lawton, Billy Traber, Earl Snyder, and Alex Escobar
Brandon Phillips for Jeff Stevens and 2 others that never made it. (Although we traded Stevens for Derosa which turned into Chris Perez)
Cliff Lee for Carrasco, Marson, Donald, and Knapp.

Soon to be worst:
Drew Pomeranz, Alex White, and Joe Gardner for Ubaldo Jimenez

Basically if not for the Seattle Mariners the Indians would routinely lose 120 games a year.

Can't remember all the Twins trades--not my best baseball skill, but two that stand out for me are:

Best: AJ Pierzynski for Joe Nathan, Fransico Liriano and Boof Bonser, and whoever we traded to Montreal for Jeff Reardon and Al newman.

Worst: Too many to remember them all, but Tom Brunansky for Tommy Herr always jumps out at me.

Worst as a Twins fan: Tom Brunansky for Tom Herr.

(Dis)Honorable mention goes to the Johan Santana trade for Carlos Gomez, et al. Even though Johan was walking at the year's end, they wound up getting crap.

The Johan trade is even more disappointing when you look at a few of the other packages offered at the time:

1. New York’s offer: Phil Hughes, Melky Cabrera and Alan Horne.
2. Boston’s first offer: Jon Lester, Justin Masterson, Coco Crisp, and Jed Lowrie
3. Boston’s alternate offer: Jacoby Ellsbury, Justin Masterson and Jed Lowrie

All three were clearly better than what they received, and those Boston offers would of been phenomenal.

Yeah, if my memory is correct, the Twins were greedy and wanted Joba from the Yanks or Jacoby AND Lester from the Sox.
