depending on the route, you could probably fit the pirates and phillies in with little extra driving. Also I believe that you can get from philly to NY in a train for very little money.

Trust me we thought about it. We had to limit it to these cities due to schedules. If they were home on the dates we were planning this we would have. Same with Boston.

I'm honestly not sure what the menu is like at the new Twins stadium but if they have cheese curds you need to try them. That's a midwest authentic food that you'll love if you like cheese. I know there's some "local" menu options at the new stadium but I have no clue what they are.

Ballpark cuisine is going Minnesotan.

We're talking pork chops on a stick, walleye on a stick and cheese curds a la State Fair. But we're also talking wild rice soup, Juicy Lucy burgers and a Murray's steak sandwich that marries ballpark grub with Minneapolis steakhouse fare.

This is all I could find. Out of all of those I'd recommend the cheese curds and Jucy Lucy burger.

Milwaukee - The Safe House - You can google it - Fun Times

Chicago - If you have never been - Medieval Times

Medieval Times? Medieval Times? That's a joke around here, like saying go to Chuckie Cheese.

The food at Wrigley ain't winning any awards. But for signature food, just get a Chicago style hot dog with all the fixings, including celery salt and sport peppers. You'd get a much better one right outside the stadium though. If you are going authentic stadium food, get the Hebrew National dogs sold on the 1st level. Much superior to the Armour hot dogs sold by the roving vendors. Now Harry Caray would tell you to wash it down with a cold Budweiser, but us Wrigley purists know that that's a Cardinal's fan's brew (coming from St. Louis) and the only way to go is with an ice cold Old Style. Have fun, sounds like a fantastic trip!

To add, I've always enjoyed the malt cups at Wrigley. I think it reminds me of the enjoyment I felt as a kid going to Cubs and Sox games. If you go to Wrigley, make sure to get there when the gates open so you can walk around the park, both the lower and upper deck. Even the stairwells have character!

Sox Park is much better now than when it was built, but if you're doing a big trip I would make sure to get lower deck seats. Unlike the Cubs, the Sox don't let you into the lower bowl unless you have tickets there. The seats are also pretty far away.

Tough for Target Field to have a signature item, but I would reccommend the Murray's Steak Sandwich, if it is anywhere close to what the resturant serves, it will be very good. Also, as was mentioned, Cheese Curds are about as Minnesota as you can get, but I doubt they will be "Real" cheese curds, as in hand battered, etc., also, it is a Wisconsin thing, but the new stadium is going to be bringing in Brats and Sausage from a local place daily to Target Field, they are made about a mile away.

As far as what else to do baseball related, the new stadium is beautiful, check out Kent Hrbek's resturant in the stadium, and I believe Ron Coomer, if you remember him, has a resturant set to open near it...there are alot of good bars and resturants downtown. Just enough being in a brand spanking new, beautiful, and small (in a very good way) stadium.

Near Philly
I second the Mickey Mantle's Restuarant recommendation, but it's by Central Park, not really near the Stadium.

Also, if you're driving near-by, you might dig the Little League WS Museum in Williamsport, PA. It's kinda 1/2 way between NY and Philly if you go the country-view way, and you're there in mid-summer check the dates and maybe you can catch an afternoon game. Pretty cool set-up and great Stadium-type food, for cheap too.

Good luck either way and have fun!

I seriously couldn't believe he suggested it.

Medieval Times is not unique to the city at all. The whole point of road trips are to go places you haven't been before or don't have the option to go to.

The loaded nachos at Yankee Stadium were pretty kick-ass.

Bumping this since the trip is getting closer and we added a few more stops! Very excited!

Also I set up a blog that I will be updating daily with posts/videos throughout the trip. I've made a few posts already, check it out! www.theballparkdiaries.com. Again thanks for any tips!

+1 Million on never going to Medieval Times.

As for the stadium food...

Wrigley seriously sucks.
US Cellular has pretty good food all around. Not the best but there are some nice places and a good variety. The stadium club above the right field stands is pretty legit IMO if you get tickets.

As for restaurants you'll be in Chicago the city is obviously massive. You can get good food anywhere. Just don't do to effin Gino's East or Giordanos or some crap. Billy Goat Tavern is somewhat tacky IMO but it is still really good. SUPERDAWG is another great place if you want some good hot dogs.

In all honesty is Chicago you'll get good food almost anywhere as long as it isnt something you see on TV! haha

We tried to work that into it, just not enough time. It came down to touring PNC or going to Williamsport. If it was doing the LLWS we would have gone for sure.

Plus one million on Tony Luke's. My second favorite cheesesteak in Philly behind D'allesandro's, which isn't really a touristy place. Tony Luke's will still get you some of the Philly atmosphere because it's pretty much underneath an overpass, and there will be a lot of people there but not like the madness at Geno's and Pat's, which are overrated (but fun nonetheless.)

When I think of ballpark food, I think of Boog's at Camden Yards and Skyline Chili in Cincinnati, but neither of them are on your list unfortunately. There is a Five Guys Burgers at the Nationals ballpark, but Five Guys is blowing up all of a sudden so it's not exactly a regional treat anymore. Having said that, if you've never been to Five Guys, get one at the Natinals game.

If you're driving between Philly and DC, you will be passing through Baltimore. It is worth a trip to G&M (5 minutes out of your way) to get a crab cake platter. G&M is essentially a really nice Long John Silver's. 2 huge crab cakes for about 20 bucks, thank me later.

Sounds like an awesome trip for you guys though - have fun and be safe!

Feel like gambling after the Yankee game?

If you take the Major Deegan Expressway towards Yonkers (its the major highway near the stadium) youll come to Empire City at Yonkers Raceway.

Without traffic (dont know if thats possible after a game) its a 15 min drive, maybe less, and theres thousands of slots and horse racing.
