For those of us who sell BIN-BO how many emails are you getting asking what is your best price. I am getting like 30/week asking what is my best price. The freaking card is up for best offer. I am replying the card is up for best offer.

I've had a few of those as well. Right now I have one up for 400 OBO and a guy offered me 200 which was auto declined. Right away he sends me a message saying he offered 200 and it was declined and what I was looking to get.

I really don't see anything wrong with that. You have it @ $400 and he offers you $200. You obviously have a price in mind so I don't see what harm it is to tell them you would accept $325 (hypothetical). Either they hit it for $325 or they move on. You don't lose.

This particular auction it wouldn't be hard for them to add up what they individually go for. There are plenty of completed listings and it easily clears 250.

I bid three times on a card and was then not permitted to bid again. I sent the seller a question asking how much he would sell the card for. Never heard back and the card has not sold. I would understand this thinking if he did not not have a BO.

I've gotten about the same frequency of e-mails now as I have in the past. If it's a card I have a BO minimum set on, I usually just tell them what it is. If it's a card that I threw up to see if I get an offer I like and have no past sales to go buy, I just tell them to make an offer or ignore the question (for cards that I just throw up to test the waters and have no real intention of selling at the given time unless the offer is higher than expected).

About 1 in 20 of the people I reply to actually buy the card in question. The rest I never hear from again.

To me, I have no idea why people even list a BIN/BO when they have no intention of listening to BOs. I'm not saying anyone in this thread does that, just making a general comment.

I don't know how many times I've seen a card listed $50 BIN/BO and I offer in the $30-35 nieghborhood and I get countered with $49.99. WTF? If that's really the lowest you're willing to go, then don't accept BOs.

I don't mind getting the questions, except for when it is a $200 card, someone offers $20 on it and it is auto-declined, then emails me asking what the best I would take on it... I don't even bother responding.

I get the same irritating question. I am willing to accept the BIN price and probably something somewhere below that. I usually respond with "What's the most you are willing to pay for the card?"

This is not always true, and its not a new trend.

I do this all the time.

I believe it is caused by sellers who; don't respond to offers, over value their cards, set auto-declines too high, etc.

If you're selling cards on ebay and you:

1) don't have a price in mind
2) can't take 5 seconds to answer my question

I don't need your card...sorry

eBay's system is partially at fault. Because you can make numerous offers, people see no reason to throw out the most they'd pay immediately and risk overpaying based on what the seller would sell for (unless it is a really hot item.) Because of this they'll make an offer, see what happens and then if it gets declines make another slightly higher and then possibly another. Because of this, it makes sense to just find out what the seller is looking for. Further, since sellers are sometimes all over the place with what they post BIN/BO's at sometimes it makes sense to get a feel whether you are in the same ballpark. Finally, from a buyer's perspective, it never hurts to ask and maybe you get quoted a number less than your offer would have been.

All that said, I rarely provide a number answer when I am asked...

I guess I have a different take.
As a seller, if I put up a BIN/BO I always have a price in mind to move the card.
Typically, I will set the BIN at BV and have in mind a best offer price based on what that card has been selling for.
Example: If I had a Cal Ripken auto that books for $100 and it's been selling anywhere between $60-$70, I set the BIN @ $100 with a BO option.
Let's say I receive an offer of $20, I would counter with $70. If the potential buyer accepts, great. If they counter with $30, I will counter again with $70.
Then, if the question comes from the same seller, what is the best price I will accpet for the card, I would probably say $65.
I think what gets lost is the art of negotiating. There needs to be some dialogue. Ebay affords the buyer and seller that opportunity but sadly it isn't often that buyer/seller take it to that level.

I agree Joe, it's asinine when sellers counter with .01 less than there BIN. What's the point?

You email sellers all the time to ask them what price they have in mind for a card that is up for bin/bo??

If I make an offer and they don't respond, yes.

If the card usually sells for $20 and they have its listed at $200, yes.

Somewhere along the way, ebay sellers seem to have forgotten that they are the ones trying to sell their cards, and that they need to communicate with and be courteous to their customers.

Imagine if there were stores that sold cards, and the proprieter treated their customers the same way...they'd go ouy of business...

...oh wait...
