I thought it was a sure deal (Mets and Molina). I guess Yorvit still has a chance to heal his butt-hurt with that team. Sorry to hear that, Posey fans. Anyone care to insight, as to why?

I would rather see him mash in AAA rather than get a handful of AB's here and there in the bigs.

Ha... I just made my only two Posey purchases this offseason in the past couple days. Doesn't matter to me, though, because you know that it is never a good thing to put all of your eggs in one basket. Molina is a proven solid MLB catcher and hitter. Posey could struggle and it would be better to have the pressure off of him to carry that position. Posey could catch fire, prove himself, and then Molina becomes above average trade-bait.
I don't really see this as bad.... more like an insurance policy. And at 4.5 mil with only one yr of commitment, that is cheap insurance in the bigs.

As a Dodger fan, this is awesome. Bengie put up a .285 OBP last year. Thats unbelievably pathetic, the second worst in all of baseball! He also is the worst baserunner in the major leagues and a declining defensive player in his mid 30's. Buster Posey would outperform Molina without question, and likely do so by a pretty wide margin. This move is truly indefensible, and Giants fans should be really unhappy (just look at McCovey Chronicles. Its a good, old-fashioned meltdown right now). Adding Aubrey Huff and Mark DeRosa while keeping molina isnt exactly the offensive overhaul the team needed.

It has been a typical Sabean offseason. Instead of setting up your youngsters for success, he hires a bunch of aging veterans to slog through another season.

it was a good move for both the giants and posey. he is not ready to handle the big leagues and playing 1-2 days a week is not going to do anything for his development long term.

Posey is not ready; plain and simple. He is having a hell of a time defensively and is far too prone to passed balls for the Giants liking. He was working on his footwork all winter and the Org. thinks he needs another 3/4 to full season in the minors. Keep in mind that Posey has only been a catcher for 4 years and this is a position that requires YEARS of experience to master. Posey is not a better option that Molina right now and the Giants had to bring in a polished catcher to handle the staff. This is a good move and Buster will be better off because of it.

He actually is a very solid defender with a strong arm. What he needs most (seasoning) his calling games. That's why maybe a few weeks at AAA and then another call up again is what the Giants should do it, and sprinkle him some games so he is familiar with the pitching staff and everything.aaron41984 said:

You haven't seen Molina catch recently. It might take years to master but it only took him a couple of lunch hours to immobilize himself.
