I saw this this morning. Such a loss for a great guy with his life ahead of him. My condolences to his family and friends; I can't imagine what they are going through.

I really hope the idiot driving the van gets the book thrown at him. There is no excuse. It's one thing to drink, but to drive after drinking is totally moronic. Then to add insult to it, the coward attempted to flee.

If one positive thing comes out of this, I hope this opens the eyes for people who do/did drive after drinking. It's just not worth the risk.

WOW, what can I say? It has been an emotional filled day for me as I am not in the greatest mind set right now. 22 years old is just too damn young to pass away. It's a sad sad day here since Nick lived about 4 miles from me. I remember watching him play high school ball and he was simply brilliant. Stone cold nerves even with 20-25 scouts standing directly behind the backstop clocking every pitch. When I find out where donations can be made I will let you all know if you want.

Hello Everyone-

I know some of you who dont understand will flame me for this, but I have decided to list my 5 Adenhart IP Auto cards and 11 of my 13 signed IP baseballs (I am keeping one and sending one to his parents, with some money from my 1/2 of the auction and a 5 page letter about Nick I just wrote.)

Half of the Proceeds I will send to the local MADD here in Spokane (or in Seattle), and the other half I will keep. But about 25-50% of my half will go directly to Nick's Family.

Based on what the auctions are currently at, I could possibly get $600-$1,000 and pocket it. But I'm not, I am doing this for a good cause. I originally got the Idea from Justinmandawg so thanks for the Idea man. Feel free to click on my auction link to the left to check the auctions out.

RIP Nick

Thanks for Understanding FCB.

JD

I kind of feel like a ******.I moved my 08 Draft red 1/1 from my store to fixed price auction after I saw his stat line this morning.Thirty minutes later I get the news from some smuck on Ebay asking me if I was trying to cash in.I was really looking forward to see what he would do this year.A damn shame.God be him and his family.

wonder what that little red car is the distance had to do with the accident? I thought it was just the two vehicles involved?[/quote:3p7bu0ou]
Nope the later report said the the van hit the car Nick was in and then struck a 3rd vehicle so it must have been
the little red car.

I'm still in shock and hope for the best for Nick's family.

Very good short story on this whole thing.
http://www.hollywoodgrind.com/andrew-gallo-killed-nick-adenhart-in-hit-and-run-dui/

This is unbelievable:

This is a tragedy that was completely avoidable. I have to wonder if Gallo had a previous DUI record, a current driver’s license, or if he was even legal to be in the United States. There’s a lot wrong with this picture, especially the fact that Gallo didn’t even try to help the people he hit by calling 9-1-1. A lot of lives were lost today, and even more have been severely damaged by Gallo’s irresponsible, and selfish behavior.

Just got home from a track meet and found this. Truly sad to see this happen.

Judging from the pictures, I'm guessing the person that survived the wreck (that was riding in the Mitsubishi) was probably the driver. The worst impact was to the passenger side. The driver wouldn't have experienced the crushing force that the people on the passenger would have, they would feel just the impact. Unless they weren't wearing seatbelts, then that's another story.

I don't have any Adenhart stuff to sell for charity, but to do my part I was thinking of this: I drive a stock car and our first practice is Saturday. Car is still in the shop and tomorrow I'll be working on it for a majority of the day to get it prepped for Saturdays test session. I think I'm going to grab an airbrush kit out of the paint booth and mix up some Angel red paint and put something like: "R.I.P. Nick Adenhart 1986-2009" or something like that somewhere on the car - probably the rear bumper as that's about the only place without decals or sponsor logos. Angel red paint with a white or silver outline would look pretty sharp.

It's not much, but it will be a steady reminder of how fast a life can be taken away from us. And how we lost a great young life way too early.

R.I.P. Nick - you will be missed :(

I was going to write something extremely negative and condemning of the murderer Gallo.

But, I thought I'd just say that this has hit me a little harder than I expected. It has been on my mind all day and it simply breaks my heart. I'm not sure if its because I'm a new father or what the deal is...I'm just emotional.

I don't own a single card of his, didn't follow his career, and didn't even know he made the Angels rotation. But, last night, I was rocking my son and I noticed Adenhart's name on ESPN's bottom line and I just remember being happy for the little guy that was pictured in his shirt and tie for his Elite RC.

Next thing I know he is gone...it is senseless and I hate that stuff like this happens.
