ESPN reporting it now. Terrible news.
Way to go Seth!!

Sad new indeed.
Just horrible.
Like many have said already, the worst things happen to the best people.
Didn't follow him much and don't keep up on Angels stuff, but just watching the hightlights and reports, he truly seemed like a class act and just another dude.
Very Sad.

I am truly in shock.

And like NEC...first Mask, now Nick...I hated driving in SoCal but this is just sad.

Wow.

Sorry I have to ask, but who's Mask?

Craig
One of the founders of TapOut. He was killed by a drunk driver a few weeks ago.

To add to this...

Charles "Mask" Lewis Jr. was one of the originators of TAPOUT and a legend/pioneer in the MMA world. He was killed by a drunk driver after he left a photo shoot with his girlfriend.

The driver was an already convicted drunk driver, and he hit them so hard the car of Mask split in two pieces.

I don't understand what it is with people in FL and CA, but people seem to get killed at an alarming rate on the roads. So sad.

At least in California people have to drive a LOT more than they do other places. More driving = more risk.

All Metro. Areas are the same. People from all over are either going to or coming from. No difference really.
Tampa, Miami, Orlando, Jacksonville, Fort Lauderdale, Tallahassee. All are just as busy as any CA. Metros.
Bet Orlando is busier then most!!

It's an 8 hour drive from top to bottom, not that it really matters, there are alot of desolate areas as well.

RIP Nick... My prayer's & well wishe's go out to all of the family & friend's left behind for all of the victim's of this senseless crime!
This may not be a popular idea (because so many individual's drink alcohol, which I've been sober for over 3 & a half year's now) but I think there is no use or sense for our government to continue to keep alcohol legal (what purpose does it serve & what good comes from it?). There is an irony to allowing establishment's to serve alcohol (bar's, restraunt's, etc.) and having a supposed strict law on drinking & driving, which the sole purpose behind it all seems to be just another way for the government to make money (if they were serious about stopping, or at least cutting down immenseley, the populous from drinking & driving they would outlaw bar's & discontinue restraunt's to serve alcohol; but in doing so they would take a HUGE hit in thier expense account as DWI's & alcohol related offense's are a key financial resource to our countries policing force).
I wish the family's the best & pray that they can get through this tragedy together! :(
Hey man I was thinking that earlier this year, it serves no good purpose and results in thousands and thousands of deaths each year...

No offense, then we should also outlaw:
Guns
Use of ANY Motor Vehicles
Eating (choking hazards)
War
Walking
Running
Horse and Buggies.

EVERYTHING in life is a risk.
Unless you are a hermit or Amish with no buggie, you are at risk every second of every day.
(I don't drink by the way)
Outlawing Alcohol will only make the stupid even more stupider.

Bottom line, this was very very tragic! No ifs, ands, or butts about it.
Deepest condolences goes out to the family members, friends, players, and fans.

Hello Everyone-

I know some of you who dont understand will flame me for this, but I have decided to list my 5 Adenhart IP Auto cards and 11 of my 13 signed IP baseballs (I am keeping one and sending one to his parents, with some money from my 1/2 of the auction and a 5 page letter about Nick I just wrote.)

Half of the Proceeds I will send to the local MADD here in Spokane (or in Seattle), and the other half I will keep. But about 25-50% of my half will go directly to Nick's Family.

Based on what the auctions are currently at, I could possibly get $600-$1,000 and pocket it. But I'm not, I am doing this for a good cause. I originally got the Idea from Justinmandawg so thanks for the Idea man. Feel free to click on my auction link to the left to check the auctions out.

RIP Nick

Thanks for Understanding FCB.

JD

Well done, sir.

Thanks guys, it's good to have some support in this, I don't know why his passing has had such an effect on me.....it's probably because he was so personable and actually cared about talking to me this past month.

SO personable?
But yet you had to go look through your stuff to see what you had to list it, because as you said, "his name sounded familiar"?
Yeah I'm not buying.
Good luck with your auctions. Hope you DO do the right thing "as you say" but i'm very skeptical.

He was one of 35 other personable minor league guys that i met. His name sounded familiar and I went to my Spring training box and found the stash of balls and remembered him.

Im hoping to get $1000 total to send $500 to MADD

On a Mask related note. . . I live in the city in which Mask died and the rumor around town was it was his fault and he drove his car right into a tree. The road he crashed on is a road that kind of branches off from the main road but there are still lots of cards.
The rumor here is he was driving about 130 and went straight into a tree, and was killed right on the scene.

Russ I didn't mean for a big debate I only agreed with him because I know a few people from my town who died in a crash involving alcohol including a classmate and one of my good friends nearly died [it was a miracle he lived]....I think you can agree with me though that nothing good happens from it.

(Btw I never said it should be outlawed and don't think it should be either, but it's terrible seeing so many deaths occur from it every year..)

Lewis was not at fault and was clean.

The other dude was Piss Drunk and is being charged with Manslaughter.
So start those words around there!

SUcks that the "freaks" are always the bad guys. Dude was a stand up guy, Hard working, and cared about what he did.

I know, WTF???? I had a couple 2006 Bowman Draft Gold listed for like $1.49 or whatever, just like all of my other golds.

Some people are jerks, and this guy will NOT get his card.

I got a message from the Buyer:

Haha man this dude just died n a car crash and his shat is gonna skyrocket you beter send this to me real fast so i can sell it right away u should pay more attention to the news sucka oh yah if u dont send it i leave neg fdbk.

The nerve of some people....

WOw, to just come out and say something that moronic is just cold hearted.

I agree, and how much is he really going to make off a base card he'll have to wait about a week for.

The thing to do would be to wait as long as possible to send it, then when he lists it win the auction and don't pay. Then he can't leave you a neg for that and it'll get held up so long that he won't be able to profit on it at all.

Haha good idea

One thing I just do not understand is why people rush out to buy all of his stuff just because he died.It sucks he died and that's horrible how it happened at such a young age but why do collectors go nuts and start buying all of his stuff?Hell, we're all gonna die some day.So are all of the baseball players and whatnot.I personally don't think him dying actually increased the value of his cards.I think the only reason people would want them is because they are maybe afraid of them popping up a lot less in the near future. But the cards themselves have no real increased value from his death.I saw the same thing with Cory Lidle stuff. It really is odd.

I beg to differ big time.

Lets see.Where to start.

Guns have to stay because even if guns were outlawed here we cannot reasonably expect the rest of the world to outlaw them and then this country would be as helpless as babies if someone wanted to infiltrate it.And no...the military couldn't do enough or do it quickly enough to quell a severe infiltration of this country. In fact our gun laws are the exact reason we have never been and never will be infiltrated. They also provide home protection.I know if I am not home and some dude is beating down my door with an axe or something or going nuts and trying to break in...my wife has specific instruction to just load the shotgun and aim right at the door and squeeze. That's all she has to do.

Motor vehicles serve a purpose.Without them how the hell can I drive 60 miles one way to work when I have to?If you say I should get a different job...then be sure to tell the people in rural areas that they will not get plumbing done because some guy on a message board said he didn't think the plumber should have a way to get to their location.However...I will say that all cars except police vehicles should have governors on them and should not be able to exceed 75 mph.No more ferrari's, no more Lambo's, no more stupid idiot ass kids who own some beat up raggedy POS honda and just got out of the movie theater from watching fast and the furious trying to do 90 down the highway weaving and bobbing through traffic like they can't possibly get into a car wreck. So I will say they need to moderate the ability to speed. Its not necessary. At all.You want to speed...go down the Audobon.

We all need to eat. That's just plain ridiculous.I don't know about you but I was taught to never bite off more than I can chew.Hence...I have never choked on any meal. And trust me...I'm fat enough to have had plenty. ;)

War is pretty much bad any way you slice it and dice it but as long as there are stupid idiots running other countries and as long as our government knows they can make money off of war(or at least certain people can) there will always be war.

Dude...if you don't walk...how the hell can you go to the friggin bathroom. You gonna crawl?Walking is actually very good for you.Nothing dangerous about it unless your walking off a cliff.

Running is always a good thing unless your running around a pool.I never figured that out but if you do let me know.Supposedly it has to do with the concrete but chances are if you jog or run anywhere...if you fall your going to get scraped up anyway.

Not sure I follow you on the horse and buggie thing either.

But to kill your point...alcohol should be banned from all resturants and there should be no bars.It should only be done at home. There is really no other place it needs to be done.I do not think you can argue that point. Its a need not a necessity. There is no reason a place should serve you alcohol when they know damn good and well that you're going to climb into a vehicle to get home at the end of the night unless you are strictly monitored which we all know would be impossible to do.As it is people are not responsible enough on their own so you know what they say...one bad apple spoils the bunch.Hell...the bar we go to every now and again, always has a cop sitting outside waiting for people who look drunk to get in their cars and leave. Its one of the main reasons we started the buddy system. If my wife drinks I don't drink and if I drink my wife won't.We used to be different because one beer would put me under the limit as well as her.I could most likely have about 2-3.But the cop is out there so just to avoid any hassel...we do it this way now.We have been for the last couple of months. But if the cop is going to do this...I wonder why I waste all my damn tax dollars to pay him to do something when I could just as easily see all bars close down and everyone have to drink at home.No more bar fights. No more shootings and stabbings. All over alcohol induced arguments.

You want to hang out and talk then go fishing, go to the park, go bowling, go shoot some pool, go to the beach, or go walk around walmart at all times of the night. But if you want to get drunk...stay your ass at home.Sure there are a lot of people like me who try to be responsible and know better than to have one too many but is my good time really worth the chance of someone else being allowed to get drunk and possibly kill someone else? Not really.

And what is going to stop that knucklehead from leaving HIS HOUSE where he is only allowed to drink??
You think banning bars and eating establishments from serving alcohol is going to eliminate Drink Drivers? Get real!

My point exactly.
WE live in a dangerous world. ANY of us are prone to dieing at any giving moment. Outlawing alcohol isn't going to do a darn thing but make those idiots that much more likely to be STUPID!

This is very tragic and it is a shame to lose anyone this way let alone a very fine Pitcher that had the potential to go far in this league. After all we are only 3 years removed from losing Cory Lidle and look what happened when he passed I agree that the people who take advantadge of events such as this It puts a huge black mark on the hobby and for the true collectors as most of us are. My thoughts and prayers to his family and the entire Angels organization as well as the baseball community.

No I would never say that closing down bars and making eating places stop serving would totally kill the problem but I will say this...when you go to one of those places and have a drink...its like playing with fire.At least if you're at home then you can factually say you're not already going to for sure be out on the road.At least there is the chance you stay home whereas if you're already out and about...well you get the picture.I also fail to see how it would make stupid people act any dumber. You're still going to have idiots out there but there are a lot of normal people every day who go out and have just that one extra beer they shouldn't have and BAM!!Something happens.I say cut as many heads off the hydra as possible and at least eliminate some of the problem.
