Parra was leaning over the plate and Kershaw clipped him on the elbow. Over-reaction by the umpire.

I agree, it was an over-reaction, Kershaw immediately yelled in an attempt to say it wasn't intentional. But it didn't matter.

Kershaw gets 19th win and drops his era to 2.30. Didn't hurt him at all getting ejected.

No over-reaction, both benches were warned prior to the game due to what went on in last night's game. May not have been intentional but they were warned about hitting anyone.

what, the umps waited until day 140 to get tough on pitchers throwing at hitters?

Doesn't matter, Roy had the better day.

Then you don't understand the rules. You are allowed to pitch inside and you are allowed to hit someone, its up to the ump to determine intent. It is obvious that he got this one completely wrong, it was completely unintentional. You can't just take the inside part of the plate away from a pitcher. There are tons of examples when pitchers hit someone on accident after both benches have been warned and were not ejected. Para was on top of the plate and that pitch just kept coming in on his hands. Coming into the night I fully expected Kershaw to hit someone because of what happened last night, but having a chance at a complete game one hitter to out duel Halladay, and bolster his CY Young candidacy, I am CERTAIN that this was unintentional. This guy is a big time competitor and you can be sure that he wanted to complete this game, he was cruising.

Kennedy is having a great season, you don't just have 19 wins fall in your lap, but Lee and Halladay are beating the best
two teams in the NL and it isn't even close, Kennedy are Kershaw are beating lesser foes. The winner will be wearing
red this year.

Can we just give this to Halladay already? Complete game shutout with practically NO run support.

Halladay and Kershaw have had roughly the same number of games against "lesser foes".

Somehow, you're attempting to use facts with a person who wouldnt know how to think that way if it punched him in the face.

All things being even, the pitcher on the better team normally gets the nod although Kershaw certainly deserves it!

Re: NL Cy Young Watch - Halladay and Kershaw 9/14

The 19 Wins for Kershaw is pretty impressive for pitching for such a crappy team. Usually the guy pitching for the playoff team gets special consideration because they are pitching to get into the playoffs, but in the mind of the voters, weren't the Phillies a virtual lock to make the playoffs going into the 2nd half of the season? Maybe Halladay and Lee won't get that extra benefit.

If not, the award goes to Kershaw as his numbers will end up looking a tick better as long as he doesn't implode in one of his last two starts.

Kershaw
19 Wins, 2.30 ERA, 236 K, 0.98 WHIP

Halladay
18 Wins, 2.34 ERA, 211 K, 1.04 WHIP

Lee
16 Wins, 2.44 ERA, 211 K, 1.03 WHIP

Kennedy
19 wins, 2.99 ERA, 182 K, 1.12 WHIP

Kershaw is still ahead and it's not as close as everyone thinks. Kershaw will have to implode and Halladay throw another shutout for Doc to take home his 3rd.

Kershaw is lucky to be in second place right now, after Lee's outing that could be gone too.

Just comparing all the expanded stats on a spreadsheet Fantasy-style-

Kershaw wins 20 categories
Halladay 12
Lee 8
Kennedy 4

Numbers that stand out:

Doc 8 CG. 7.03 K/BB. 2.34 DIPS
Kershaw. 0.206 BAA
Lee 6 SHO

Halladay has 3 starts left, Kershaw 2. Kennedy would have to win his last 2 starts to stay in the race. Same goes for Lee.

If Halladay and Kershaw are going on the same day, how are the starts different? I know the Phils have a lot of extra games, but I doubt they'll take him off his regular schedule and focus on playoff preparation. The Dodgers, on the other hand, may try to get Kershaw an extra game.

Kennedy should get some credit for pitching in hitting friendly AZ, but there is a huge difference in ERA, WHIP, and K that doesn't explain the difference. In my eyes, he just hasn't been quite as good as the other three.

I forgot that the Phillies have 2 double-headers. Doc might end up with 2 starts.

Anybody think Kershaw's ejection will cost him the CY Young?

Re: NL Cy Young Watch - Halladay and Kershaw 9/14

If the ejection costs him that would suck. Clayton has pitched lights out all year on an average ball club. I don't know
the specifics about the ejection, but the "gotta protect my players" argument is stupid. It's obvious by all the poor
run production, that the dodger player didn't have Claytons back. If anything costs Kershaw it will be his divison, two
of the poorest offenses ever, the Giants and the Rockies.

I really look back at the two Braves games that both pitched in. Doc with a huge win and Kershaw with a loss. I think you
also have to look at the markets. Kennedy at a distinct disadvantage because he plays in Arizona, while Lee and Halladay
are always in the public spotlight. Kershaw pitches out west where many voters don't see him.

I will say that if Kershaw or Kennedy do eek it out, Lee and Halladay won't care one bit. They have only one award
in mind, and that one isn't voted upon.
