Worse comment ever. Check his stats. Terrible F

I guess that is why Kershaw never pitches more than 6 innings.

Re: NL Cy Young Watch - Cliff Lee 9/5

Ok, I'm going to distance myself from a particular phillies poster by actually giving a valid reason for why I think what I think.

Cliff Lee, if he continues to pitch anywhere near how he's pitching right now will win the Cy Young. If the numbers are anywhere near the same, the pitcher on the better team seems to win it.

Not a homer since I've really enjoyed watching Kershaw turn into the pitcher most people thought he would be.

Also...

Lee facing the same lineup that Kershaw did and did it much better. I would put Lee in front of Kershaw at this
point.

Kevin

I would have used this as a reason........when i was 12.

Re: NL Cy Young Watch - Halladay and Kershaw 9/9

Halladay looks to be back in form tonight. Just K's Braun and Fielder back to back to end the 6th. Strikeouts number 200 and 201 with only 28 walks.

6 IP, 3 H, 0 ER, 2 BB, 6 K

Kershaw should be starting soon.

Re: NL Cy Young Watch - Halladay and Kershaw 9/9

Kennedy is having a great season, you don't just have 19 wins fall in your lap, but Lee and Halladay are beating the best
two teams in the NL and it isn't even close, Kennedy are Kershaw are beating lesser foes. The winner will be wearing
red this year.

Re: NL Cy Young Watch - Halladay and Kershaw 9/9

It's going to be interesting. If the stats remain close like they currently are, pitching for a playoff team should help the Phillies pitchers, but maybe Halladay and Lee split some votes and Kershaw sneaks in.

That's pretty cool. It looks like the formula relies on using past stats so it probably still includes a big reliance on wins. After Felix Hernandez/Bert Blyleven, the voters understand that Wins are not the most important pitching stat.

Halladay at 120 pitches after 8 innings...he sure doesn't look like he wants to come out as he sits on the bench.

Re: NL Cy Young Watch - Halladay and Kershaw 9/9

Amazes me that Kershaw doesn't throw his curveball that much and its his 2nd best pitch. Its been a nice dose of fastball and slider this season. Curve to slider ratio is around 4.7% curve < 24% slider

And Kershaw answers with his own haymaker. What a gem:

8 IP, 3 H, 0 ER, 1 BB, 9 K

Four guys throwing lights out right now. Too bad three of them are going to lose.

Put most other offenses in the NL behind Lee and Halladay and they are still dominant pitchers. However, I believe their numbers go down because they don't have the formidable Philly lineup giving them the comfort of run support.

I haven't see the hard data, but I've got to believe Kershaw and Kennedy (especially Kershaw) know they stand a good chance of having to win 3-2, 2-1, etc. Tonight's game is a prime example. Kershaw went into the hostile environment in SF and was on the hook for the loss until the bats finally woke up in the 8th & 9th. By contast, Halladay was up 3-0 before he even took the mound, and was up 5-0 before he gave up the run in the 7th.

Don't get me wrong, Lee and Halladay are tremendous pitchers, but mentally it has GOT to be easier to pitch your game knowing the lineup behind you is going to give you a pretty darn good chance to win.

you are probably right, even though scoring runs hasn't always been a given for the phillies, these past two weeks
have been the exception. You still have to go out and win. Lee and Halladay have been beating the best teams in the league, no small feat. It would be interesting to see what each pitchers run support is. Can't take anything away from
Clayton tonight, beat Lincy and went 8 innings...plus my fantasy team approves.
