My understanding is that EricinCT has the only vote this year.

Whoever sends him the most cards of that player will win.

I say Hanson.

But every name on this list, save maybe Coughlin, has a real shot at being an all-star caliber player next season.

I agree with everything you say. Cogalan is better than people think.

Is there a running inside joke on FCB with Coghlan? You guys butcher his name more than any other player. I always see it typed as "Coughlin" and I think I saw "Cagolaolin" up above.

2 months ago he didn't.

I can't see McCutchen hitting enough to be in the discussion in the next 6 weeks so I believe it is down to three pitchers:

Happ
Hanson
Randy Wells

Am I missing anyone? I think it is between Happ and Wells but I can see Hanson making some noise, he seems to be in every game he starts.

Happ would get the vote today, followed by Wells then Hanson then McCuthen.

Happ 8-2 ERA 2.73
Wells 8-4 ERA 2.74
Hanson 6-2 3.25

Happ has had way more starts than Hanson and 2 of his wins have come in relief.

Thoughts?

His ERA did shoot up .05 points since then. My bad.

Pretty sad that even with that he has dropped out of the ROY discussion overnight. I am telling you, you will have much better luck with Michael Taylor in 2010.

Happ is probably not going to throw another pitch in 09.

N

it's a weird spelling of the last name.

a quick search of facebook yields:

about 9400 coughlin's
about 5400 coughlan's
152 coghlan's

So why does he suck this year?

Also Hanson has gone 7 or more 6 times(out of 18), where Happ has done it 10 times(out of 20) Add in three CGs and two shutouts for happ to boot.

If Casey McGehee would have started off the season as a starter he would have walked away with it.

The race is going to come down to the wire, but Hanson has only improved as the season has gone on.

It's amazing how much deeper the NL is compared to the AL. No one in the AL is going to be an all-star caliber player for a few years at least, except Andrew Bailey (again) because of his role.

And before anyone says Porcello or Beckham, I am aware of their existence.

It is also amazing that the players in question in the AL (Porcello, Snider, etc) are 20-21 whereas all the NL rookies are 23-24. It is also amazing how the AL is 10x the league that the NL is. Put Happ with his average stuff in the AL and he is a 4.50-5.00 ERA type of pitcher.
