Ok, enough of these threads about top prospects, blue chippers, first rounders with amazing pedigrees...let's dumpster dive and take a look at Indians minor leaguer (not "Indians prospect") Matt McBride.

Currently playing AA ball for the Akron Aeros, McBride started off the season slowly. Very slow. April through June had him hitting roughly .255 with only 6 HR and a weak OPS in the .710 range.

Now here we are with July winding down and McBride has been on a tear during the month's 23 games. He's hit .364 this month with with 11 HR and a big boy 1.271 OPS.

So what does the future hold for this 25-year-old...probably not much more than the hope of bench time on a MLB club...but I felt he deserved the mention.

Here's the scan of the Gold Ref 25/50. All I have left is that, 5 base cards, and 2 gold chunk. It's FT/FS if anyone wants it. Just drop a PM.

He was promoted to AAA today and is having a huge game for Columbus -- 3 for 4, 2B, HR, 3 RBI so far.

EDIT: Just saw that Jaypers scooped me. :)

He always seems to have one extremely hot streak every year where he tears the cover off the ball. It's been nice watching his statlines recently. His rebound is especially intriguing when you consider that he was demoted to Hi-A Kinston last year after a poor start at AA Akron.

Mike,

I've seen you mention him a couple times in various threads. What's the connection? Do you know him personally? Just curious.

Gee... I hadn't taken note of his surge in my daily writings :)

But seriously, it's good to see him on a tear. I don't know where he could fit in with the big club, but if he keeps hitting like this, they will find him a spot. Come to think of it, the Tribe sure could use a DH... right, Matt? ;)

No, I don't know him at all, I just have followed his career since being drafted. I don't know why, but there are a slew of players over the years that I just key in on. Nothing to do with cards really...just stemming from the draft.
