Y! SPORTS

This is ridiculous. Grow up! Why can't someone stare at their home run for 2 seconds without getting yelled at, threatened, and punched in the face? If someone showboats you wait until his next at bat and you strike him out.

wow apparently McCann wasn't ejected... Yet Carlos Gomez was!!!!!! Are you kidding me?

edit: Why does nobody care when a pitcher pumps his fist after a strikeout? Can anyone explain to me the difference between a batter celebrating and a pitcher celebrating?

Gomez never touched home plate...cause McCann was blocking it lol

Run actually should have never counted based on that

Alough, what the hell was Gomez yelling at the pitcher...1st baseman...2nd baseman...short stop....3rd baseman, and McCann for??? Only people he didn't yell at were the outfielders haha

Nah the run should count anyways because his path was obstructed when McCann blocked his path and then Reed Johnson started punching him. The announcers stated that the pitcher yelled something at gomez first and then freeman and mccann started going nuts when gomez responded. Regardless of who was yelling, there was no need for mccann to escalate it by blocking him and no need for Reed Johnson to start punching Gomez.

What if Gomez hits a triple...starts going for home..."and his path was obstructed when McCann blocked his path"

Would the same rules apply?

It depends if McCann has the ball in this scenario. If you don't have the ball and you block the runner's path it is deemed obstruction and the runner is awarded the base.

Not counting the run in that situation simply because he didn't touch the plate would have been absurd. I see the semantic argument regarding the situation, but obviously the umpires made the right decision there.

Maholm drilled Gomez in there last series in Milwaukee.

The video Yahoo chose to use followed the homerun. I'm wanting to say I saw one last night where Gomez started jawing right out of the box.

Either way - why can't everyone act like they've been there before?

Freddie and McCann had to have been hall monitors in school. Their crusade to purify baseball is hysterical.

If you are defending Gomez in this case, punch yourself in the nuts for me. Gomez starts it by staring down Maholm after the first pitch and then jaws with McCann. He then hits the home run and stares at his home run for 4 seconds before his starts his trot, in which he starts yelling at Maholm and then Freeman.

If you're defending these fake Charles Bronson vigilante Braves, I'm sorry, I just can't take them seriously when this guy is their face...

...I mean all I see is Buzz from Home Alone. Is there a bigger dork in MLB?

I don't know if you're watching it right. The first big shout sounds like someone (McCann?) Yell: fuc#ing run, *********!

Gomez was getting revenge for an intentional HBP earlier this year. He stared the HOUR down and probably knew he'd get drilled next AB for it, but it could have ended there.

I don't get Freeman acting like Gomez involved "the whole team", when it was clearly between Maholm and Gomez until McCann and Freeman made it about the Braves.

The only thing I really have a problem with was Reed Johnson staying in for club-shoving Gomez and then Gomez getting tossed for rightfully reacting.

Everyone else apologized and admitted their emotions got in the way. Gomez was probably the most professional after the game (via Twitter and statements).

Im not a Braves or Brewers fan, but I think the run should've counted because the hit was a home run. The rule book states that the runner must touch all bases but if he was obstructed before being able to do so, then Gomez should've been awarded home plate (which was his to begin with). If he would've touched home plate, then the jaw jacking started, would've the run counted? YES! I see the Brewers appealing the on field ruling.

btw, Im not a Gomez fan, he did rob my Reds of 2 important wins in the last at bats of games from Joey Votto and Jay Bruce.

MLB.com has the entire 7+ min fiasco. BTW, total garbage to showboat like that by Gomez. Classless move to jaw every position infielder.....no doubt, act like you've been there. One prob is the MASSIVE egos of elites get hurt so easily and frequently boiling over is bound to happen sometime, esp since the Brewers aren't going ANYWHERE after Sunday except in front of their TVs to watch way better teams compete.

You're right, the Braves are acting like they have been there before. Every time a guy watches a home run for more than 1 second their entire team turns into a bunch of ******* all yelling at the guy. But it is all ok for the Braves players to pimp home runs...
