Idiot or not as bright as some?? Many people been posting on this thread knocking me down for offering such a low amount. It's nice to see people get some enjoyment for some of the same things they do on other auctions. This seller, and the other
Members that have brought my name to this thread is BS. Also for FCB to allow this spamming to occur because it makes interesting conversation is a joke in itself. Guess it makes for good conversation when you can here crickets on most of the transaction boards. I mean let's call a spade a spade. This guy brings up the fact that I offered $800... How is that interesting? I have numerous supers, and 1/1's that I get offers of $50-100. I'm not running to the board to post that these offers are from our own MEMBERS. The guy even apologized to me for his response saying it was from one of his employees. Dude is a straight coward. Spamming his auction at the expense of making me look foolish. Most of these knobs will be worth 40-50 percent of what is paid today. I bother nobody on this board, and enjoy all sites that bring attention to our hobby, but members taking jabs is a bit disheartening. Know the facts before you cast judgement.

So because it is worth 40-50%, he should sell it to you for less than 40 - 50%? That makes no sense. You tried to lowball the guy before it had a chance to get out there. And, as stated, it's hard to "spam" something that is 100% surely going to get posted anyway.

It was a fun thread at your expense. Thank you for providing such entertainment.

I am going to defend yclipper21. I read all your threads on how you hype up a guy. Do I go around trying to low ball people on their auctions, no. Do I go hype the hell out of a guy now when I watch them play, no. I watch and see what I want to see. Do I criticize people and give them my opinion on prospects, absolutely. I try to pick out parts and find guys who are underrated and overrated. I brought up a point on the hot sheet last week on a guy and said he is a product of his home ballpark and I get crushed, maybe you guys should read what scouts and people who actually see these guys play before making your own assumptions. Sure some are wrong as I admit I have been in the past, but it's great to have people watch a guy your collecting and pointing out their faults and strengths. I know how you guys are on here, you guys are a clique or a possy from the old beckett days and if you haven't noticed Gilmore, your transaction site is dead. It seems like the only boards that you have going are baseball and the general sections. Good luck with your future travels and maybe I'll stop by the FCB booth at the show, but currently I probably won't because people here don't treat people with respect of their privacy on their business and act like dirt to someone who makes an opinion. The only few I only respect are Wes, Scrip, and Aminors. You can ban me if you want.

Trying to get a deal = bad

Guess this isn't the prospect world anymore. Maybe it's time to take Todo home.

When you have a card worth several thousand, it's not spamming, it's just showing off a greagt card..

The guy making an offer is an idiot and we all had a laugh at his expense..

Good luck on the killer card!!

(my guess is $3200)

I was close...

$3,049.00

Privacy on their business? All of a sudden calling out someone on a lowball is a bad thing? Come on, now. Call out the drama llama!

I can see it being a bad thing. 1st off lowball offers happen everyday in almost every business out there. Its part of the business world. You dont see "Bob" posting that "Pete" came in and low balled him on some plumbing work he needed done.

2nd - who said the $800 was his final offer, why does ebay have a bin/bo option. They want people to make an offer, if the seller wants to accept it he will or he will counter. Not a big deal at all.

As for the card, someone might think it was a good offer, personally I have no clue the value of something like this and might have thought $800 was a good starting point.

I honestly just don't think it makes the OP wrong for posting it since this is something we see every day. The only difference is that the guy who made the offer happens to be a board member with a nice collection. I don't believe in saying "Oh, well, since he's a board member..." No, lowballers get crucified on a normal basis.

What's funny is, on the way home yesterday I was listening to ESPN radio, and they have segments during the commercials called "Looking at the Law". They detailed a case where a guy found a ticket for the Titanic so he took it to a large antiques dealer. The dealer told him "I don't see it being worth much, but I'll give you $1000." The guy took it, and the dealer ended up selling the ticket for over $100k, The original owner sued the dealer, and the courts sided with him stating that a well-versed merchant cannot misrepresent a value that he knows to be too low to an unknowing seller so that he can make a profit. The profit from the second sale went to the guy who found the ticket.

I'm not saying this is the kind of stuff that should go to court, but - obviously - someone with enough knowledge of the real value of certain rarities better watch out when trying to downplay value so that they can make a buck.
If I can find a link to the case, I'll link it after this.

Edit: Details not exact, ticket belonged to his wife's ancestor. They also had many more items, but the ticket - alone - sold for over $100k. I was paraphrasing.

Edit: I'm not saying this is of anywhere near the same magnitude, but it would make me bite my tongue before making a comment anywhere NEAR "he tries to tell me gary carter, a HOF player, did 1000$, 800 is fair for a player like clemente.... " (if this was said at all) and turning around to boast about how I have an extensive rare collection that often gets lowballed.

This, its not that the person was lowballin so much but as to the comment he made. By the Comment it does not look like he was starting with the 800.00 offer and looks like he knew what he was doing by low ballin. Im sure this was not his first rodeo in cards. In the end it really doesnt matter as the person who sold it knew what he had. Comparing Gary Carter to Clemente is laughable enough but Comparing Rare Clemente memorbilia vs Carter Rare Memorbilia (Price wise) is down right sad (No Longer laughable).
Great sale to the Seller. I would have never sold the damn piece but I think I stated that in another thread

As I said before know the facts. Never was I comparing the talents of Clemente to Carter. The seller know that 800 was my starting point, because I had no basis to know its actual value. I own no vintage cards. I prob would have went higher, but nowhere near its sales price. The seller actually offered it to me for less than the final price. A_Pharis why do you continue to beat a dead horse. Seriously do you get joy in making someone feel foolish?? I guess some people really get joy in bringing people down. Bringing in case law??Seriously... Business must be slow for you to actually take the time to search that out. I want no problems with you or any other member. I enjoy collecting, but for you to waste time regarding this matter is ridiculous.

Time to search it out? I heard it randomly on the radio, and it took 3 seconds to Google "titanic ticket court". Was like the first or second result.
I was expressing why the thread went like it did. It's par for the course, and it just happens the person being talked about was a board member. THen you come in blasting the site for its lack of traffic in areas. Don't get mad. If you don't want to read it - no one is forcing you. It is humorous, however, that you claim to have no grasp on the item's value... but your "starting point" was UNDER the price of someone who is of NO COMPARISON to the featured player. Don't kid yourself - you were hoping to jump on it and catch it before it got the exposure, it didn't work and now you're upset. It's cool - and it's perfectly human. My posting of the case law doesn't even apply directly here... it's just my reason for not being the guy that tries to downplay value when you KNOW it's not the case (even if you don't know an exact figure).

If you want to respond to this, feel welcome - but I'm not forcing you to.
