Another V Carter. A white border would have suited me just fine. I am not a fan or the prismatic, multi-colored borders. If it were me, I'd use his name in place of the position as well.

A fun cheapo item from the junk era. Fleer pin. I believe these were wrapper offers. I was not actively collecting them, but odds are, I probably would not have ordered them anyway. Trying to chase down all the different BB, FB and BKB Fleer pins from the early 90s now. Most people want too much and they are usually pricier to ship as well. I'll wait patiently for the deals to come around.

Inspired by a previous post, I was not aware of the Torre Safe at Home cards. Went and chased down all i could find. One is with my COMC order (2024), so won't see that one for a while. Didn't see any for 2020-2023, assume they exist though. Also saw a 2017 but didn't buy it. Was too much.

2018,2019 and 2026 versions.

A couple more Hostess panels I needed. Getting closer and just won a great lot of panels with terrible photos, so hoping to scratch a few more off the list when that lot arrives soon.

2005 Topps Turkey Red Gold Parallel 306 Josh Gibson #/50 -- A throwback to the historic Turkey Red set released in 1911, fittingly the same year Josh Gibson was born. It features my favorite image of Gibson, used frequently on multiple sets including famously his USPS Postage Stamp.

Gibson doesn't have very many cards. I don't feel Shakey's Pizza should be worth what it is, but the HoF collectors are all over it along with Laughlin Black Stars set which is just a caricature. I still on the lookout for a NSCC Lelands Toleteros promo for the right price, but that is much easier to track down. Many of his subsequent A&G, Topps flagship and Stadium Club cards have photoshopped team logos. In his small library of cards, I feel this set remains as his best modern release even after 20 years. I prefer the matte textured finish to the shine of some of his refractored releases. This card has the same picture and print run as his 2023 Bowman Chrome Refractor which goes for hundreds more. I also have a Red parallel which is a nice color match to his uniform, but excited to add this Gold /50.

Thats nice. The Bowman are cool cards, but they are definitely driven by the new collector who holds Topps on some weird pedestal. Drives me nuts actually

Hey, that's a nice card.

There's so much mythology around Josh Gibson, I wonder how good he really was. Was he really the black Babe Ruth?

I'm a guy who thinks the Babe was the best ever. And I think Mays and Bonds are very close seconds. And I think that Ohtani is only starting to put his hat in the ring. So when I think about Gibson, I really wonder. We don't even have all his stats for Chrissakes.

So I just don't know. But I'll say this. If he was as good as his contemporaries said he ways, he's in the discussion.

In the discussion for sure but he isn't even considered the best player of the ***** Leagues by most of his contemporaries. Oscar Charleston and Willie Wells got mentioned more as better all around players by all the ***** Leaguers I met than Gibson did. Josh was considered the best power hitter but Charleston, Wells, and Turkey Stearnes were all better all around players.

Kind of an unusual mail day for me, more like old school times. All baseball, no Dodger stuff.

George Kirby. Was trying for his Heritage, but couldn't win one. Watching the ALCS reminded me I never got his auto, so grabbed this one /50.

Lastly, a Circa Emerald Auto Ochoa that I won for $1. Of course shipping was $5. I still need his Metal auto to complete his 3 card run.
