the Penguins and F Tyler Kennedy failed to come to an agreement on a new contract. Kennedy is a RFA but the Pens did not offer him a qualifying offer by 5 pm EDT today so he will become a UFA on July 1st. the Pens could have opted to take TK to arbitration but he most likely would've have won and receive a yearly salary around $2 million and the Pens are not willing to pay him tat much. he cost the Pens $700,000 towards the Cap last season and scored 21 goals and 45 points. both were career highs.
I am fine with the Pens letting Kennedy head to free agency. he is definitely a solid forward but is not worth Top 6 money. the money the Pens didn't give Kennedy will most likely be offered to Jaromir Jagr.
