Re: OFFICIAL DRAFT DAY THREAD - Jim Callis' Final Mock Draft

man, there's like 8-10 guys I think the Brewers would pick.
I just wanna know who I'll be scanning ebay for later tonight.
I've saved "Nick Cast* (patch, au*) in my searches though, so that's my gut.

I'd just like to thank all 102 of you who decided to enter guesses in my draft contest (even though not quite all of you filled all 10 picks in).

You guys set a new record this year. Last year, there were about 60 entries.

Sounds like it could be a rough day for the BA site. Just spoke with Conor Glassey, and he said they are a bit concerned because their top IT guy recently left, and they aren't sure about how much traffic they can maintain. Conor also said there may or may not be a chat today - depends on how the site is functioning.

Eh. Not a huge fan of that pick.

I would be very happy with that pick.

Wolters is a very good overall player, with an intriguing package of tools across the board.

Braves really, really need a guy who can play 3rd. There is absolutly no 3rd base depth in that system.

You know it's funny, I was wondering if MLB would try to have more players live in the studio this year as opposed to last year, and I couldn't help thinking about Mike Trout. The way he handled himself as he waited...and waited to hear his name called - pretty classy young man. And now...well, sometimes plus-plus makeup pays off big.

The problem with having guys either at the draft or in the studio is that a majority of the top flight guys are still playing either in HS tournaments or the NCAA regionals.

Also, I would be stunned if Yaz fell all the way to Tampa at 17. I don't see the Mets or Reds passing on him if he falls that far

In all honesty I'm fine with whoever the Pirates take but I would love to see Machado go #2. That makes it a shoe-in that it will be Taillon...

I'd be fine with Machado or Tailon, I think it's hard to pass on a pitcher on a pitcher with that type the size and velocity, regardless of the inherent risks with taking a pitcher. Regardless, I will be interested in seeing how the money they will have to shell out for first rounder impacts the drafting strategy through the later rounds.

Re: OFFICIAL DRAFT DAY THREAD - Jim Callis' Final Mock Draft

Here is Jonathan Mayo's final Mock.

With the first pick hours away, a final first-round projection
By Jonathan Mayo / MLB.com

06/07/10 1:00 PM ET

Here it is, ladies and gentlemen, the last best (educated) guess at what Monday's first round will look like.

Teams were still scrambling to figure out who was going there, who would be available where they pick and how signability might impact their decisions. Every year, scouts will say, "this is the craziest first round" they've ever seen, but that sentiment seems even more common than usual. With that in mind -- and knowing that updates will likely come on the blog and Twitter -- here's the latest on picks 1-32.

1. Washington Nationals: Bryce Harper, C/OF, College of Southern Nevada
Top prospect goes to the top team, just the way it should be.

2. Pittsburgh Pirates: Jameson Taillon, RHP, The Woodlands HS, Texas
When all is said and done, the Pirates take a shot on the top high school arm in the class.

3. Baltimore Orioles: Manny Machado, SS, Miami Brito HS, Florida
Same deal as has been reported: They'll take the prep talent the Pirates don't select.

4. Kansas City Royals: Yasmani Grandal, C, University of Miami
Could come down to bonus demands. If he doesn't go here, he could tumble a bit.

5. Cleveland Indians: Chris Sale, LHP, Florida Gulf Coast University
If the Royals take Sale, the Indians could look at Michael Choice or Zack Cox.

6. Arizona Diamondbacks: Drew Pomeranz, LHP, Ole Miss
This has been the pick all along here, but concerns about signability made things unclear.

7. New York Mets: Zack Cox, 3B, Arkansas It sounds like it could be the advanced college bat here, but there has been buzz about the price tag. Justin O'Conner getting a lot of love here as well.

8. Houston Astros: Michael Choice, OF, Texas-Arlington
Seemed like Houston was leaning college, rather than high school, bat here, with Choice the most likely ... choice.

9. San Diego Padres: Karsten Whitson, RHP, Chipley HS, Fla.
There's been interest in college bats like Choice and Kolbrin Vitek, but they're going with the high-ceiling high school arm instead.

10. Oakland A's: Justin O'Conner, C/SS, Cowan HS, Ind.

Bucks the trend of A's taking college players in the first round, and they could go back to that, but for now, this seems the direction they're headed.

11. Toronto Blue Jays: Josh Sale, OF, Bishop Blanchet HS, Wash.
Could go in a number of directions here, but the high schooler with the outstanding raw power makes some sense.

12. Cincinnati Reds: Brett Eibner, RHP/OF, University of Arkansas
Grandal could stop here if he doesn't go above, but college arm is the likely scenario. It's just a question of which one.

13. Chicago White Sox: Asher Wojciechowski, RHP, The Citadel
Looking like a college pitcher. Could be Brandon Workman or even Barret Loux. Wojciechowski is definitely in the mix.

14. Milwaukee Brewers: Brandon Workman, RHP, University of Texas
If Workman goes to Chicago, the Brewers could go with Wojciechowski.

15. Texas Rangers: Alex Wimmers, RHP, Ohio State
This is the pick they need to sign, since they won't get compensation for the selection if they don't.

16. Chicago Cubs: Matt Harvey, RHP, University of North Carolina
The Cubs are liable to do just about anything and won't shy away from a Boras advisee.

17. Tampa Bay Rays: Bryce Brentz, OF, Middle Tennessee State
Plenty of choices at this point, but a good college bat would be hard to pass up.

18. Los Angeles Angels: Dylan Covey, RHP, Maranatha HS, Calif.
Insert SoCal high school pitcher here. They could wait until 29 for this possibly.

19. Houston Astros: Delino DeShields Jr., OF, Woodward Park Academy
This has been the buzz all along. There's a chance the Astros reach to get him at No. 8 if they think he'll be gone.

20. Boston Red Sox: Kolbrin Vitek, 2B/OF, Ball St.
Buzz around Anthony Ranaudo persists, but the thinking right now is that he slides by.

21. Minnesota Twins: Deck McGuire, RHP, Georgia Tech
They got Kyle Gibson in a similar slide (though that was because of injury) last year.

22. Texas Rangers: Kellin Deglan, C, Langley Blaze, BC
With O'Conner off the board, the Rangers could go with next-best prep backstop.

23. Florida Marlins: Aaron Sanchez, RHP, Barstow HS, Calif.
The Marlins have been mentioned in having interest in the SoCal righty for some time.

24. San Francisco Giants: Stetson Allie, RHP, St. Edward HS, Ohio
The Giants could go with the big arm in Allie or perhaps a college bat like Christian Colon or Jedd Gyorko.

25. Saint Louis Cardinals: Christian Colon, SS, Cal State Fullerton
He could be gone by this point, but if he's here, they could take him.

26. Colorado Rockies: Nick Castellanos, 3B, Archbishop McCarthy HS, Fla.
They'd love for someone to fall to them a la Christian Friedrich. Castellanos is rated higher on talent lists, but will he sign?

27. Philadelphia Phillies: Jesse Biddle, RHP, Germantown Friends HS, Pa.
It's looking like Taijuan Walker is out of the picture here, so we'll go with another high school, and local, arm.

28. Los Angeles Dodgers : Cam Bedrosian, RHP, East Coweta HS, Ga.
Dodgers would love for Covey to be here, instead they'll bank on MLB bloodlines.

29. Los Angeles Angels: Peter Tago, RHP, Dana Hills HS, Calif.
Taking two straight SoCal high school arms is not out of the question here.

30. Los Angeles Angels: Sammy Solis, LHP, University of San Diego
Balancing out the prep right-handers with a college lefty.

31. Tampa Bay Rays: Michael Kvasnicka, C, University of Minnesota
They'll need a signable player here, since they'll get no compensation, and he might be the next-best available catcher.

32. New York Yankees: Ryan LaMarre, OF, University of Michigan
Rumors of Tyrell Jenkins going here have been dismissed, so we'll go with a college bat in this spot.

J.P., as the resident #1 Rays fan, who would you like to see them snag with their two 1st rounders?

In a perfect world, Grandal and Choice. They definitely need a catcher, and I'd love to see them snag a potential 5-tool outfielder as well.

I agree! It's a win win for both of our teams.
I'm kinda hoping on Machado. We need that middle IF.

So I've seen Matt Harvey Projected at AZ, CHI, & Mil.
Which do you think would be a better fit?
Better Hobby love?
